    Valley School Districts
To Elect on Monday, June 15
WOODBURN Annual election will be fcald by tha Wood
burn ichool district Monday afternoon In the, Lincoln grade
school, beginning at 2 o'clock.
Terms of Dr. Cterald Smith, school director, and Frank
Proctor, clerk, expired this year.
A school director's term Is for
three years while the clerk of the
board is elected each year.
The clerk has been receiving
$480 per year, but the budget com
mittee has increased the figure to
$300, beginning with the new fis
cal year. The directors serve with
out pay.
Under law the polls must be
kept open at least until 3 o'clock
on Monday. But in recent years
It has been customary to keep
them open much longer.

HAZEL GREEN Notices of the
annual school meeting June 15 at

bids on 15 cords of 18 inch wood.

Lebanon Plans
For Hospital
LEBANON Registered nurses
in Lebanon held a meeting Wed
nesday afternoon to plan for the
emergency auxiliary nospital be
ing organized. It wi 1 be set up
in the high school gymnasium and
six rows of beds will be set up,
20 beds in a row. In addition there
will be rooms for cases needing
to be isolated.
Surgical cases after an x-ray at
the office of Drs. Miller and
Booth will be taken to the Leba
non General hospital. In case of
an emergency convalescents will
be transferred to the auxiliary
hospital or sent to their homes.
Drs. Irvine and Herren will
be in charge of surgery at the
general hospital. Dr. Booth will
have charge of the emergency
hospital Two registered nurses
and several nurses' aids will be
on duty in the auxiliary hospital
at all times.
Funds for the purchase of drugs
and instruments are being donat
ed by various clubs and unions,

Lester Stephenson and small son
of Los Angeles are vacationing in
Oregon and visiting Stephenson's

to Yachats Sunday where they

turned from Portland where she

Episcopal church.
Mrs. Thurson also received an
nouncement of the marriage of
another granddaughter, Margaret
Skelton. daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
T. F. Skelton of Toledo, and Rus
sell Sedgwick. They willlive in
Portland.
The city council has granted a
permit to R. I. Wright to build
a marquee on the Odd Fellows
hall. The council decided that the
fire bell should not be used for
blackout signals, but that the
siren on the fire truck might be
Used instead. Bills to the amount
of $279.49 were ordered paid.

Funeral to
Be Friday
97 Year Old Native of
France Dies at
Marion Home
WOODBURN Mrs. Carolina
Wohlheter died Wednesday morn
ing at the family home on Boone's
Ferry road northwest of Wood-
burn, Her age was 97 years, 1
month and 27 days.
Mrs. Wohlheter was born in
Havre, France, on April 13, 1843,
and had lived in the United States
for the past 94 years. In 1908
she moved to Woodburn from
Nebraska.
She is survived by sons, Louis
and Eugene F. Wohlheter of
Woodburn and granddaughter
Vera Seime of Oakland, Calif.
Kecitauon or the rosary was
held Thursday evening at
o'clock at the Ringo mortuary.
Funeral services will be held in
St. Luke's church Friday morn
ing at 9 o'clock and burial will
be in Belle Passi ecmetery be
side the body of her husband,
Valentine Wohlheter, who died
several years ago.

LEBANON Mrs. Emma Bell
inger has had a letter from the
bureau of information of the war
department telling her that her
son Jack is scheduled to sail for
home on the first boat of ex
change nationals. That vessel, ac
cording to her letter, is supposed
to sail from Japan early In June
Jack, who had been teaching
in japan and doing newspaper
work on a large daily in Tokyo,
has been interned for six months.
The first volunteer in "Dors For Defense of Hawaii" is Qaestor, s

Injuries Prove
Fatal for Boy
LEBANON -Lyle Otis Simms,
8-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs.
J. J. Simms, died at the Lebanon
hospital Wednesday as tha result
of injuries received Sunday when
a tree fell on him at the home
west of town.
He was born here eight years
ago. Funeral services will beheld
Saturday. Rev. Clauds Pika of
the Evangelical church will offi
ciate. Burial will be in the IOOF
cemetery.
The parents, grandparents and
three brothers, Norman, Roger
and Gail survive.
Joe Randall Builds
In Salem Heights
SALEM HEIGHTS Mr. and
Mrs. Joe H. Randall are building
a new home at 200 Vista avenue.
They expect to be able to move
in sometime in July. Randall is
manager of the Golden Pheasant
restaurant and the Fred Meyer
lunch counter.
They have two daughters. One
daughter will enter college this
fall and the other will be in the
first grade at Salem Heights
school.

a 10 day visit in Berkely Calif,

mouth. Mrs. McBee replaces Mrs
Elsie Bolt who is ill.

Mrs. Richard Davidson Sunday at

Taylor Hears of
Brothers Death
JEFFERSON J. H. Taylor re
ceived word Monday that his
brother, Robert Taylor, 28, had
died of spinal meningitis in, Eng
land, ms home was at Des Moines,
Iowa, and he had been serving
with the armed forces in England.
Mr. and Mrs. Taylor and three
children left Tuesday by automo
bile for Des Moines, their former
home, where memorial services
will be held for the deceased
brother.
Besides John H. Taylor of Jef
ferson, the deceased is survived
br his mother and three sisters
of Dea Moines, and one brother
In Oklahoma. The Taylors will
visit Mrs. Taylor's mother and
other relatives in Iowa before re
turning here.
