Bible School Sets Record All attendance records have been broken at the First Presby terian church vacation Bible school with 230 registered the first week, Donald Douris. director of religious education, announced. Bible study, memory work, projects in music, and worship services are carried out in the various departments each day. with the theme, "Our Church' being emphasized. Hundreds of articles in craft' work have been started with bas ketry and wearing being taught by Mrs. Nora Thwnpson and Mrs. Arthur Bates; clay modeling by Frances Ann Kells; painting by Mrs. Mae Gingrich; braiding by Ted Corbett, and woodworking by Virgil Galloway and Leo Rob- bins. A 20-voice choir is being formed under the direction of Nancy Lou Wallace, assisted by Jean Fiddler It will sing at the opening and closing assembly programs during the next week of the school. The largest department enroll ment is held by the Juniors, with Harold Douris as superintendent and 86 pupils enrolled. Maxine Wagner is secretary, Betty Zo Allen is pianist,' and Other helpers include Pat Sears, Shirley Parker and Phyllis Nelson. At a teachers meeting held af ter the school was adjourned, plans were made for a bicycle tour to a large number of the Salem . church on Saturday afternoon, June 6, and-for an afternoon out ing on the Salem Art Center grounds next week. Children from IS different Salem churches are enrolled in the school. Many Couples To Be Honored By Minister All couples married in the First Presbyterian church since he has been pastor will be specially hon ored by Rev. W. Irvin Williams at the Sunday morning services. Invitations to attend have also been sent to those married in the present church and those married In the former church, now occu pied by the American Lutheran church. "Wiping the Dishes" will be the sermon topic and special numbers have been arranged by the senior choir. Names of the couples hon ored will be printed in the church bulletin. "Personality Transformers" will be the topic for the sermon at the evening service. The vested young people's choir will sing at the eve ning service. The junior CE will meet at 4:30 with Don Ringland as leader. Holy Name Groups Meet at St. Paul Parish Holy Name societies of Portland and vicinity, Columbia county and the Willamette valley will meet In St. Paul's parish In St. Paul, Oregon, June 7 at 2 p. m. for their quarterly meeting. Ben ediction of the most blessed sac rament will be offered by Father Orth, pastor of St. Paul's parish. The nominees for officers of the Holy Name Diocesan Union are: T. J. Flynn, holy redeemer par Ish, president; Mike Benedict, St Boniface (Sublimity), first vice president; Lee Goetz, Our Lady of Sorrows, second vice - president E. O. Sweo, ascension, secretary W. C. Installation of the new officers will be held after election. Such will enable pool ing of passengers and conservation of gasoline and rubber. Gervais Resident Says First Mass GERVAIS Leland A. DeJar din, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. De Jardin, who was ordained last Saturday at St Mary's cathedral in Portland, said his first high mass at Sacred Heart church in Gervais Sunday morning at 10 o'clock. Local Pastor Honored By National Croup Dr. Irving A. Fox, pastor of the First Baptist church, who has been attending the Northern Bap- tut convention meeting in Cleve land, Ohio, has been honored by being chosen to serve on Uie ad ministrative committee of the na tional council of finance and pro motion. Dr. Fox is expected home Fri day so will fill the pulpit Sunday, His sermons are "Where Is He" and "The Universal Claim of Christ." OBEOON STATESMAN; Solera, Guest Speaker Is Scheduled Rev. Leon I. Rosenberg will be the guest speaker at the Chris tian and Missionary Alliance on Sunday at three services, 11 o'clock, 3 o'clock and 7:45 o'clock. Rev. L. I. Rosenberg is a con verted rabbi and has done many years of missionary work in Rus sia, Poland and other European countries. He founded the Bethel mission of eastern Europe and did" an extensive work in Russia until he was imprisoned. He was later released and exiled with his fam ily, who went to Poland. There they built up a large missionary work with several large child ren's homes, where they cared for destitute and orphaned children. When the nazis occupied Poland, they were again driven from their homes and interned in a concen tration camp and then finally were moved to a vast Jewish ghetto, from which Rev. Rosenberg made his escape. On Monday' evening a party from the Simpson Bible Institute will hold a special service show ing natural color views of the faculty and staff and also show ing student activities on the cam pus of the school. Turner Pastor Resigns, Going to Rupert, Idaho TURNER Rev. and Mrs. John Mitchell, pastor and wife of the Turner Methodist church for the past year and a half, are leaving this week following their resigna tion from the local pastorate. Rev. Mitchell left Monday morning for Rupert, Idaho, where he will help his parents during harvest Mrs. Mitchell has accept ed a position in Salem for the summer and is moving there. Both. Rev. and Mrs. Mitchell were graduated from the Willamette university Sunday afternoon, re ceiving their bachelor of arts de grees. No pastor has been named to succeed Rev.
