Diplomas' Tuesday
At Final Program
MT. ANGEL Graduation ex
rcises were held at St. Mary's
school Tuesday afternoon at 2
o'clock with the awarding of 32
eighth grade diplomas, five 4H
summer school scholarships, two
certificates of merit, and numer
ous penmanship certificates.
: The program included the fol
lowing numbers by Bertha Ann
Hassing, Raymond Esch, Annella
Bauman, Pamella Penner, Odelia
Opoka, Lorraine Bickler, Rosella
Gooley, Angela Zach and Annel
la Bauman.
Rev. Damian Jentges addressed
the graduates and diplomas and
certificates were awarded by Mrs.
Agnes Booth. Rev. John Cummis
ky awarded the scholarships.
Receiving the certificates of
merit and having the honor of
having their names inscribed on
the bronze plaque, donated by the
local American Legion, as the
outstanding boy and girl of the
eighth grade were Annella Bau
man and Bernard Seiler.
The American Legion Auxil
iary scholarship .was awarded to
Patricia Kehoe. Pamella Penner
received the scholarship for cook
ing donated by the Veterans of
Foreign ars auxiliary of Salem.
The scholarships given for the
best grades in religion were won
by Annella Bauman and Bernard
eiler and the one for the best
church history student went to
Raymond Esch. The last three
scholarships were donated by St.
Mary's parish.
All five scholarships will give
the winners twb weeks of 4H
summer school at Oregon State
college.
Seventeen of the graduates also
received student penmanship cer
tificates, as did several seventh
graders. Almost the entire fifth
grade was awarded Improvement
certificates.
A breakfast party for the grad
uates was held in the club room
of the school at 9 a. m. Tuesday,
with Miss Theresa Dehler, prin
cipal, and Miss Louann Hassing,
eighth grade teacher, as hostesses.

Book Review
JEFFERSON The two study
groups of the Missionary society
of the Christian church held a
joint meeting Thursday in the
church parlors. Mrs. Eugene Fin
lay gave a review of the last chap
ter of the study book, "A Chris
tian Imperative."
During the social hour mem
bers crocheted around blocks for
quilts for the casualty station.
Mrs. Alvin Robison was honored
with a shower.

Two Awarded
TNT Plaque
Honor Given to Two
For First Time as
Twin Brothers Win
SILVERTON For the first
time in its history, the names of
two boys appeared on the honor
TNT plaque at the Silverton high
school when that plaque was pre
sented Wednesday night by Prin
cipal Harold Davis. Don and Ray
David, twin brothers, won the
honor. There were only three
votes difference in the entire
student body's vote and the fac
ulty reported it could make no
choice between the two popular
twins. What the one had done the
other had also done during their
high school career. Girls honors
went to Jane Irish.
Henry Ulvin won the distinc
tion of having his name on the
American Legion plaque.
Charles Walker of Northwestern
school of commerce at Portland
was unable to appear because of
his recent accident and Dr. I. C
Milhouse of the director of teach
ers' training at the Oregon Col
lege of Education at Monmouth,
substituted for him.

Receives Prizes
JEFFERSON Miss Marian Hess
of Jefferson, senior in home econ
omics at Oregon State college, re
ceived three awards at the recent
honors convocation held during
Mother's week end.
She received the Alpha Lambda
Delta certificate awarded from the
national society to senior members
who have maintained a grade
Doint average of 3.33 or above
for eleven terms, based upon 4.0
as perfect; she was one of six
home economics seniors receiving
the certificates, and among the to
tal of 15 senior women who were
given these awards, and she re
ceived the Panhellenic senior
award which is given for superior
scholarship among sorority wom
en. She also pledged Kappa Del
ta Pi, national honor society for
men and women in education.
