her engagement to Mr. Glen Ed
ward Travel, Jr. The news was

party Wednesday night when
Miss Greenwood and her aunt,

Miss Greenwood, who will re
ceive her degree from Willa
mette university this month, is
the daughter of Mrs. Frances M.
. Greenwood of Suringfield, for
merly of Salem, She is a mem
ber of Beta Chi sorority.
Mr. Fravel is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Glen E. Travel of
Portland and attended Willa
mette university two years. He
Is a member of Alpha Psi Delta
fraternity and is with the Port-
land Flying Service at Madras.
The couple plan to be married
in September.
. Guests were invited to a bridge
party and the tally cards, with
the names of the couple, revealed
the! engagement. A late supper
was served and bouquets of
spring flowers decorated the

Miss Yantis
Receives
Honor
Miss Alma Yantis, president
of the Salem high school Home
Economics club, was announced
as the outstanding member of
the club by Mrs. Eula S. Creech
at the 15th annual fashion show
honoring the mothers at the
high school auditorium Wednes
day afternoon. Miss Yantis will
have her name engraved on a
pewter tray.
Home Economics honor pins
were awarded - to eight seniors
and junior girls including Miss
Dorothy Sheldon, Miss Jean
Tansey, Miss Betty Takayama,
Miss Tomoko Ninomiya, Miss
Betty Pierce, Miss Delores Don
aldson, Miss Marjorie Ruther
ford and Miss Emily Turner.
Preceding the style show Miss
Alma Yantis greeted the guests
and a mixed voice ensemble
sang a group of numbers. Har
ry Van Dyke and Robert Schu
mann played piano selections.
The theme of the show was
"Key to Victory" and at the
back of the stage was a large
key and a number of the girls
walked through the keyhole
when modeling their dresses.
Girls modeled the dresses they
had made during the year in
cluding cottons, work and play
clothes, victory modes, rayons,
woolens, tailored suits and coats,
and graduation dresses. The
graduates include the Misses
Alma Yantis, Janet Boyce, Jo
anne Hobson, June Parker,
Vera Ralph, Mary Brooks, Ed
ith Moxley, Pat Chapman, Laura
Jean Bates, Muriel Baker, Mu
riel Chase, Dorothy Sraalley,
Dorothy Sheldon and Vera Mae
Mitchell.
Miss Betty Lou Evans headed
the directorate for the affair
and ushers were the Misses
Phyllis Nelson, Barbara Bates,
Dorothy Glover, Esther Herbert,
Shirley Langford, Claire Nelson,
Marjory Potter, Eleanor Stroud
and Helen Zink.
The Girls League members
served tea in the gymnasium for
the mothers and daughters after
the show.
The Bok and Thimble club
will meet today at the home of
Mrs. Margaret Brown at 1:30
o'clock.
Members of Pi Beta Phi
alumnae club will meet tonight
with Mrs. Marion Mulkey at

Las Vegas, Nevada, at 4 O'clock.

the University of California and

Chadwick chapter, Order of the
Eastern Star at the regular
meeting Tuesday night. The
guests were Introduced and the
women were presented with
gavel shaped salt and pepper
shakers. Mrs. Wayne Henry and
Mr. Milton Meyers gave short
talks in behalf of the "honor
guests.
A special guest was Mrs. Mary
Alford of Silverton, who is a
grand officer. A degree was
given by the officers for Mrs.
X. W. Peterson and Mr. Gordon
Barker.
Refreshments were served af
ter the meeting and the table
was centered with a miniature
Maypole with roses tied tb the
end of the streamers. Mr. Cory
