Mr. and Mrs. Elton H. Thompson presided at a dinner Saturday night at their South Church street residence. The affair honored Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jackson, who with their children, Ralph and! East Lincoln street , Fifty guests from Salem and Monmouth have been invited to call between 3 and 5 o'clock. Mrs. Herbert Rahe will assist in receiving the guests. A bouquet of mixed spring flowers will provide the decorative note on the table. Tea and Dinner Planned- - Mr, Charles L Wood and his son, Mr. Donald Wood, will be hosts at two affairs today at their South High street residence in compliment to Miss Adele Balsiger of Portland and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Balsiger. Miss Balsiger will marry Lieutenant Charles Llewellyn Wood, jr., son of Mr. Charles L Wood, sometime in "June. . . Miss.Balsiger and her parents are leaving this week for Fort Bragg, North Carolina where the wedding will take place. (Jesten-Miller) I J LANS are being completed for the 1 5th annual convention of Oregon Federation of Garden clubs to be held in Salem June 16 and 17 at the American Legion Home. Members of the Salem Garden club, under the direc tion of the president, Miss Edith Schryver, are the hostesses. Assistant hostess clubs are Brooks, Hazel Green, Independence, Monmouth Civic club, Oak Grove Gardeners of Rickreall, Stayton and Little Garden club of Salem Heights. Miss Schryver and Mayor W. W. Chadwick will welcome the several hundred delegates who will be here for the two day session. At the noon luncheon on June 16 Miss Eleanor Stephens, state librarian, will speak and in the afternoon there will be a tour of gardens and a tea at the homo of Miss Elizabeth Lord and Miss Edith Schryver. Governor Charles A. Sprague will speak at the banquet at the Marion hotel in the evening as will Mr. Edgar Kline. Main event on Wednesday's cal endar is the president's no-host breakfast with, Mrs. Daniel Heffner, state president, presiding. (Jesten-Miller) Miss Maxme Klmge became Mrs. Calvin Kent Saturday night when tfi couple exchanged wedding vows at 4he First Congregational church in Gtistcn, the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Klinge. Mr. Kent is the son of Mrs. Vernice Kent of Willamina. Rev. Alton Brostrcm performed the cere mony at 8 o'clock. The altar was decorated with calla lilies, carnations and snapdragons, flanked by tall white tapers in candelabras. Miss Marian Bretz of-Salem sang "Until" and "Ah Sweet Mystery of Life." Miss Margaret Mullen of Salem was the organist. - The bride was preceded to the altar by Miss Margie Rumer and Miss Lena Glath of Salem, Mrs. Harold Kristensen of Portland and Miss Clarissa Weber cf Grangeville, Idaho. Their frocks were of heaven blue, fashioned with full net skirts and taffeta waists. The sleeves were elbow length and the sweetheart necklines were outlined with net. They wore shoulder length veils of matching blue net, caught with daisies in their hair and carried colonial bouquets; of pink swetpeas, daisies and delphinium. - Mrs. Francis Ward of Portland, matron cf honor, wore a gown of pink em bossed organza designed with full skirt, fitted bodice and pink edging th neckline and the sleeves. She wore a crown of flowers and her bouquet was of blue delphinium, daisies and mixed sweet peas. Sharcn Chapman of Hills boro was flower girl. ' , - Mr. Klinge gave his daughter in marriage. For her wedding she wore a handsome gown of white satin, fashioned with a full skirt which terminated in a court train. The long sleeves were full at the shoulders ending in points over the wrists. The gathered bodice was fashioned with a sweetheart neckline. Her full length tulle veil was edged in lace with wide lace insertions on the train. It was caught to her hair with a coronet of orange blossoms and for the wedding she wore a face veil. She carried a white prayer book with a white orchid and shdwer of white sweetpeas. Mr. Ted Kent of Oregon City stood with his brother as best man. Seating the guests were Mr. La Verne Dahl, Forest Grove, Mr. George Robinson, Sa lem, Mr. Elton Everhart, Molalla and Mr. Ralph William Snyder, Salem. Mrs. Klinge ware a gown of petal blue taffeta and net and a -corsage cf roses and sweetpeas for- her daughter's nuptials. Mrs. Kent's gown was cf dusty rose and her flowers were roses and sWeet peas. The hewlyweds greeted guests at the reception in the church parlors. Mrs. Elton Everhart sister of the groom, cut the cake and Miss Helen Koberstein d Gaston presided at the punch bowl. Serving were Miss Mary Shindler, Mist Agnes Walsh and Miss Gail Ferguson of Salem, Miss Violet Beatty, Miss Nf ma Johnson and Miss Harriet Minturn of Portland. , i - For travelling the bride chose a pastel blue wool gabardine .suit with a . pink top coat Her accessories were navy. Mr. and Mrs. Kent will return to Sa lem after their wedding trip and will be at home at 717 North Cottage street The young couple have made their home in Salem for several years and Mr. Kent is a field, audi tor with the state department cf vocational educaticn. Both are alumni of the University of Oregon. r ' Marries in Eugene . A former Salem girl. Miss Jean Hewitt, was married Thursday night to Mr. Everett Lee Nicklaus of Los Angeles, formerly cf Eugene. The wedding took place in Eugene at the First Congregational church, with Dr. Victor P. Morris of the University of Oregon reading the 8 o'clock service. The bride if the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jay B. Hewitt of Eugene formerly of Salem and the groom's mother Is Mrs. Fred CookLof Eugene. Baskets of white snapdragons, daisies, cajla lilies and white candles dec orated the altar. Mrs. - P, H. Lehman was the organist and Mr." Wilbur, Jessen -sang. , - Of white marquisette was the bridal gown. The bishop sleeves were caiwht ct the wrist with a band of lace and the bodice was fashioned with a high V neckline with tiny buttons down the back. The full skirt was enhanced with lace inserts. Her fingertip length tulle veil fell from a Mary Stuart cap and sh' wore a pearl necklace. Her flowers were roses, gardenias and bauvardla. Mr. Hewitt gave his daughter in marriagel . , r i . ' r . Miss Estol Sly of Eugene was her cousin's maid of honor and Miss Kay Booth of Salem was bridesmaid. They wore identical frocks of turquoise mar-' quisetie with lace trim, square necklines and short puffed sleeves.
