Suver Child Struck by Car .- i SUVER Five year old Dickie Kester was struck by a car Thurs day evening as he ran into the " street after-a ball. Traffic was heavy with cantonment workers returning from -work. The Kes ters are living on East Main street in Monmouth for a few months since having to leave their farm at Wells. His injuries were not serious .-although he received ' bad scratches and bruises and had to be kept quiet a few days. , Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Maxwell of Portland were Sunday dinner - guests of her parents, Mr. and . Mrs. C. M,r Benedict Andrew -avard of uulur is boarding with Mr. and Mrs. John Heffley and working as carpenter at the cantonment. He is Mrs. lleffley's brother-in-law. Mrs. M. Conger underwent a major operation at the Coffey Memorial hospital in Portland Thursday. Mr. Conger and Flor ence drove down town to be with her and brought little Martin Eck man home with them for a few days. On Sunday they took Mrs. S Benedict and children and spent the day in Portland. They found Mrs. Conger quite ill but . making satisfactory progress. Howard of Portland of ficiated at the ordination 1 cere monies at St Benedict's abbey here Thursday morning, May 14, at 8:30 o'clock, when three monks of the order were raised to. the priesthood. Those ordained were Rev. Albert Bauman, son of Mr. and Mrs.. J. T. Bauman of Mt Angel; "Rev. Anselm Galvin, son of J. M. Galvin of Pendleton, and Rev.. Augustine Kalbcarer of Milwaukie. The chaplains or assistant priests for the new priests were as follows: Rev. Columban Man ser assisted Father Albert; Rev Luke Eberle assisted Father An selm, and Rev. Anthony Terhaar assisted Father Augustine. The Very Rev. Jerome Wespe, prior of St. Benedict's abbey, aet ed as presbyter-assistant. Rev Damian Jentges and Rev. Method I Korn were deacon and subdeacon of the mass and Rev. Patrick Meagher and Rev. Benedict Ke- ber were deacons of honor. Rev, Robert. Keber and Rev. Stephen Hofmann were masters of cere monies. Immediately after the mass the newly ordained had breakfast with the archbishop and at noon there was a special dinner in the seminary referctory for them and their relatives. Father Anselm will offer up his first solemn high mass in the abbey chapel on June 15. Father Augustine will have his first sol emn high mass in his home parish of Milwaukie on Sunday, May 17 while preparations are being made in Mt. Angel for the entire parish to take part in the celebration of the first solemn high mass of Father Albert on Sunday, June 14 Compliments Scio Emergency Unit SCIO Scio war emergency hospital, under direction of Dr. A. G. Prill of this city, was com plimented this week by Dr. A. Edward Bostrom of Albany, who was here on official business. Al bany is wdrking on a similar in stitution as a part of the war effort. Dr. Prill this week ad dressed an Albany group on aux iliary hospitals, using the Scio unit as his inspiration. Scio board of education at a recent meeting learned that the staff of instructors for the com ing year still is incomplete. Those of the present force accepting new contracts include J. A. Bliss, high school principal, Mrs. Don ald Bryant, Mrs. Alice Gregg, Mrs. Felden. Grade principal, C. W. Miller, has been elected at Corvallis, Mrs. Miller also is leav ing the Scio system.
