Slow Trade
Holds Grain
CHICAGO, May 9.-(iflP)-Grain
prices held to a narrow range
Saturday, closing the week with
net gains of fractions to more
than a cent. Trade was restricted
by uncertainty about congres
sional action regarding govern
ment grain sales and price ceil
ings on farm products.
Renewal of profit taking caused
early weakness but reports of the
Pacific naval battle helped to off
set this, stimulating some buying
support. Wheat was off about
cent at one time, and other cere
als showed corresponding losses
but most of the declines were
erased later.

widely endorsed by public offi

agricultural instructors, and farm
organizations, according to T. R.

Breeders of purebred Jerseys
are donating the bulls to grade
herd owners under a plan devel

All bulls offered will meet the as

requirements of production. It is
the only association that requires
production information prelimin

Oregon i breeders have offered

tion, they will form 1000 demon
strations of the value of improved
breeding.
Applications mailed to The Am
erican Jersey Cattle club, 324
West 23rd St., New York City,
will later be returned to the Ore
gon committee, charged with the
responsibility of selecting the dai
rymen best qualified to receive
the bulls. The committee is com
posed of T, J. Law, jr., Troutdale,

club; Marlin Fox. Oregon City;
Henry Werner, Silverton; I. D.

The need for better bulls is one
of old standing. The American
Jersey Cattle club is sponsoring
this program to focus attention on
this important dairy problem at
this time. During periods of ad
versity which are likely to follow
the war, high producing, effi
cient cows must be kept. Good
bulls used today mean better and
more profitable cows to milk tomorrow.
