His father, Sheik Ibraham, was a mahout in the service of the Maharajah. But the father died when Sabu was a small child and the Maharajah paid him a pension of two rupees a month. i Sabu became a sensational screen star when he was dis covered by Korda in this jun gle and was given the title role in "Elephant Boy." At the time the youngster couldn't speak a word of English but a teacher was secured and in an incred ibly short time he learned the langirage with only a I slight trace of an accent. His intelli gence ajid brilliant mind amaz ed all who met him. Sabu continued his education in London and later made the highly successful "Drums" and "The Thief of Bagdad."
