Dallas, Mt. Angel Organize
Cavalry Reserve Platoons
DALLAS iA cavalry platoon of over 50 men from the
Dailas vicinity were sworn into the cavalry reserves of the
Oregon state guard last Wednesday night by Mayor H. C. Tobin,
USA retired. Fourteen more were sworn in Tuesday night. These
members will receive experienced
military training by men skilled
in mounted defense tecnmque.
A meeting of, the platoon was
held Thursday night at K. C.
LaudahlV Diamond K. Academy
ranch on Ellendale road.
Men interested in joining the
cavalry reserves of the Oregon
state guard are asked to contact
Bob Errion, organization officer,
at PO box 444, Salem, or tele
phone Salem 3442. Application
blanks may be obtained from K. C.
Laudahl or from Albert Zentz.
The troop must be completed in
a limited time.

. Mr. Cameron reports that ap
proximately; 40 women will be in
charge in the day time with 25
teachers assisting at night Esti
mates show thai, around 5000
cards will be issued here during
the hours of 9 to 4 and 7 to 9 each
day of the registration days.
TURNER -Approximately 700
people will be registered May 4
to 7 under the sugar rationing pro
gram registration which will be
held in the Turner high school.
Hours will be from 4 to 6 and
from 7 to 0 p.m. each of the four
days. Registering alphabetically
on Monday A to H is scheduled;
on Tuesday from I to R; Wednes
day, S to Z, and the remaining to
register the closing day, Thursday.
The teachers will be registrars.

Wins Trophy
At Track Meet

GRAND ISLAND The annual
meet of - all surrounding county
school districts was held Tuesday
on the local school grounds with
Pleasantdale winning the trophy.
The Grand Island district placed
4 second, Webfoot third, Unionvale
fourth, Fairview fifth, Wheatland
sixth and Hopewell seventh.
The east side team won both
ballgames played in the afternoon
with; the following scores: boys'
game 18 to 10 and the girls, 17 to
1.

met at the city hall Thursday. A
full platoon completed their en
listment and they were sworn in.
It is one of the first platoons com
pleted and sent in fo the state
headquarters to Major H. C. Tor
bin, in charge of cavalry, and
Brigadier General Cowgill, com
mander of the Oregon state guard
in Portland.
v. The next meeting of the platoon
will be held at the city hall next
Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Date Set for
Dallas High
Graduation
DALLAS May 19 is the date
set for the 1942 Dallas high school
eommencement. The class will be
addressed by Charles F. Walker,
president of Northwestern School
f Commerce, Portland. Because
the seating space in the high
school auditorium is limited, ad
mission will be by ticket only.
; Baccalaureate services will be
held at the high school auditorium
on Sunday, May 17, at 8 p.m. W.
C. Rhea, pastor of the Dallas
Christian church, will give the
sermon. The public is invited to
the services and no tickets are
necessary.
