The Juvenile grange is making
With high government officials participating, the 17. S. Navy offi
cially assumes control of the University of Iowa's pre-fiight naval
training base at Xwa City, la., first of four such schools to be com
missioned in the United States as part of the Navy's "30,000 pilots
a year" program. The first contingent of 600 cadets will not arrive

West Salem
WEST SALEM One hundred
and twenty five women attended
the combined home nursing
classes of Eola, Rickreall and
West Salem at the city hall Mon
day, at which time Dr. Herbert
Notkin lectured on venereal dis
eases and Mrs. George R. K.
Moorhead showed pictures.
The regular home nursing
classes will be held at the city
hall this afternoon and tonight.
Monday night Margaret Gillis
will lecture to the combined
classes on communicable diseases
and immunizations. The following
Friday the students will take
their final exams.

of the sugar rationing registration
at Silverton. In turn he appointed
Harold Davis for, registration of
the trade at the high school and
Harry Cameron for registration of
the consumer at the Eugene Field

Registration of trade will be
April 28 and 29 with the hours
from 8:30 to 12 o'clock and from
1 to 5 o'clock each of the days
and from 7 to 9 on the one night

UNION HILL When Union
Hill grange met Friday, Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Hansen were given
the first and second degree obli
gation and Alice Jaquet became
a member by a demit card from
Harper grange in eastern Oregon.
W. M. Tate reported on the
labor situation in the county. O.
W. Humphreys reported on leg
islature. The grange will spon
sor a church Sunday, May 10,
with a dinner at noon and church
services at 2:30 p. in
state officers were balloted on.
The grange will sponsor a 4H
scholarship again.' In charge will
be Mrs. C; E. Heater, O. W. Hum
phreys and Mrs. Carrie Town-send.
