Growers are arming themselves for the annual spittle bug fight, which will be at hand any day now, according to reports. In recent years, strawberry growers have discovered that the control is much more effective if dusting is done just as hatching commences rather than when all the bugs are out and at work. Rotenone dust Is now being used almost exclusively here and farm ers are hoping for a few days of suitable weather when dusting begins. Rain reduces the effec tiveness of rotenone while high temperatures increases its ef fectiveness, they claim. Reports of a bombing raid on Japan and strength of securities stimulated the buying, most of which represented purchases of dealers covering previous short sales. . Milling and Hour trade ac- l Uvity remained quiet, although some interests were believed to have taken advantage of prices posted at yesterday's close, when wheat was the lowest in about five months. - Buying did not reach broad pro portions, however, and when flour business failed to expand, it soon lost force. Wheat closed cent higher than yesterday, May $Ll-, July $1.21. Crowd Attends iSuver Sale SUVER A large crowd attend ed the general farm sale at th Valentine farm Wednesday.
