PAC3CX Birthday Dinner Held Forty-seventh anniversary of tht founding of Chadwick chap . ter, Order' of the Eastern Star was celebrated Tuesday night aj. the Mftg temple. A no-boat dinner preceded the meeting and the tables were festive with arrangements of primroses and other spring flowers. The guest table, where Mrs. Ralph Allen, worthy advisor, presided, was centered with a tiered birthday cake with yel low candles, a gift of Mr. Wsyne Henry. ; Two charter members, who helped organize the chapter 47 years ago were present, and In cluded Mrs. Milton L. Meyers and Mrs. Lena Cherrington. Of the 43 charter members six are how living, and the other four Include Mrs. Homer H. Smith, sr., Mrs. May Pierce, Miss Vir ginia Byrd and Miss Berjtha Forster of Portland. Mrs. Ralph Allen gave an ad dress of welcome' and the com munity singing was led by Rev. W. B. Mahon of Independence, accompanied by Mrs. Jessie Bush Mickelson. Charter Members Feted At the meeting the two hon or guests, Mrs. Meyers and Mrs. Cherrington, were presented and gifts given. They talked inform ally of the meetings of 1895 as contrasted to those of today. Other special guests who talked , briefly were Mr, Milton L. Mey ers, past worthy grand patron of Oregon, Mrs. Paul H. Hauser, past worthy grand matron, Mrs. Elizabeth Page of Portland 'and Rev. W. B. Mahon. A program followed the meet ing and Mrs. E. E. Bergman read an original poem depicting the organization of the chapter. A degree was presented by the officers in honor of the two charter members present. Mrs. Edgar S. Former gave a group of solos. The committee in charge of the anniversary party included Mrs. D. X. Beechler, chairman, Mrs. Wayne Henry, Mrs. Lynn Purvine, Mrs. Pearl Grote, Mrs. Frank Crawford, Miss Hilda Crawford, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Crawford and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Flack. Miss Jack Fetes Rotana Club Miss Lorena Jack was hostess to Rotana club members and friends at a delightful party Tuesday night at Lausanne hall. Miss Violet Swanson, director of the part-time continuation school, outlined her duties in connection with the Guidance and Personnel, department of the Salem high school. The remain der .of the evening was spent In work for the civilian defense program. Lunch was served by candle light to the following: Mrs. Dor othy Cassillius, Mrs. Emma Drin non, Mrs. Alfred Laue, Mrs. Bess Delephine, Mrs. Ipha Knox, Mrs. Emma Wesson, Mrs. Flora Donnelly, Mrs. Fannie Douglas, Mrs. Jessie Miller, Mrs. Camp bell from the Eugene club, Miss Agnes Johnson, Miss Vada Hill and the hostess. Miss Jack. Larsens Have Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Axel Theodore Arsen observed Jfeeir golden wedding anniversary at a family reunion in their home on North Edison street Easter Sunday. A daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Levy lives in Salem, Mrs. Valkyria Lund in Sweet Home, and a son Viking J. Larsen, in j Portland. ' Mrs. Larsen was Mina Wiberg before her marriage in Chicago on March 20, 1892. They have lived in Portland since, with the exception of 12 years at Ridge field, Wn. Mr. Larsen was en gaged in salmon fishing industry for 40 years. Mr. and Mrs. Dean E. Arehart and two month old son who are . now living in Seaside spent the past weekend in this vicinity with Mrs. AreharTs parents, Mr. and Mrs. Keesecker of Jeff er- son, and Mr. Arehart's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Arehart of Salem. Women for Defense The H and F club met Wed nesday at the home of Mrs. James Parker on Mill street. Election of officers was held, with the result that Mrs. S. W. McFee wu elected president Mrs. James Parker, vice presi dent and Mrs.' Keith Winters, secretary-treasurer. Every member of the com mittee has taken first aid. The club as a whole has been sew ing for thehome defense, and has contributed financially to ward purchase of blankets for home defense. Central Willamette Valley as sociation. Phi Beta Kappa, will meet .for luncheon in the Rose room of the Argo hotel Satur day noon. Dr. Chester F. Luth er, president will preside.
