Boy Scouts Move Summer Camp To Smith Creek, June 14 to 28 Two weeks of an earlier at Smith Creek camp in the Silver Creek recreational area, for Boy Scouts of Marion, Linn and Polk counties, is the announce ment made Saturday by Harry Scott, chairman of the Cascade Area Boy Scout council camping committee. "At our recent meeteings of the committee a great deal of thought has been given and study made of the unusual problems and needs of the summer camp activities,1 commented Scott. "Crop labor needs and the tire shortage prob lem called for an earlier season and for a closer location than we have been used to. Therefore we decided on the advantages to be had at Smith Creek camp in lo cation, facilities and opportuni ties to carry out our type of pro gram." The season being planned will be for the two weeks from June 14 to 28. The camp is in a wilder ness setting, yet only 28 miles from Salem. The rustic buildings fit into the setting and assure health-, safety, and comfort in U kinds of weather. The program of activities Is car ried out under the direction of trained leaders, and includes camping, swiniming, craftwork, scout advancement practice, hik ing, outdoor games, wholesome meals, evening campfires and long nights of rest Emergency service training will be emphasized also.
