Easter Rites Set At Jefferson JEFFERSON A new electric cross is being installed in the Jef ferson Evangelical church f or the Easter program to be given the night of April 5. Bennett a nephew of Mrs. Hennies, has joined the navy and will leave soon. ' Dallas Man Helps At Concessions For Camp Adair DALLAS F. E. (Boots) Ker sey, Dallas, started work last week with the cantonment corporation of Salem, of which E. K. Piasecki, Salem, is general manager and one of the chief stockholders. The concern will have the con cession for establishment of can teens to sell soft drinks, sand wiches and such during the period of construction of the Polk-Benton cantonment and after it be comes an army camp. Four canteen buildings will be constructed immediately and the plans call for an increase to at least 20. Kersey will be in charge of installations and will supervise as they start operating. JEFFERSONFour out of five of the Jefferson grade school teachers have resigned their positions offered 'them for the coming year. Mrs Wanda Tesdahl, Albany, who was offered a contract for the' third and fourth erades next term, leaves to find a more lucrative . position elsewhere. She has taught two years in the Jef ferson school and has had nine years teaching experience. Mrs. E. B. Henningsen. who has had 15 years teaching experience, has rejected her contract for the fifth and sixth grades for next year, after teaching here for four years. She is at present the fourth grade teacher." Clifford Rich has resigned as seventh and eiehth erade teacher. He has three years experience, two of which have been in Jefferson. Mrs. Riches also resigned,2 after teaching this year. Florence Dennison, primary teacher is remaining as first and second grade teacher next term. This is her first year in Jefferson. Sunday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rehfeld was their son. Francis Rehfeld. and Lawrence Waddle, nephew of the Rehf elds, both employed in the Boeing Aircraft plant Seattle. Additional dinner auests were Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Wilson, Field Station, and Mrs. Wilson's sister. Virginia Lively, Fruitland. Junior Martin, Archie Dowell and Kenneth Zemlicka, all em ployed in the Boeing plant in Seat tie, spent the weekend at their homes here. Mrs. Joe Goin of Oakland is spending several days in Jefferson this week looking after her prop erty. While here she Is a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Menderson. Mrs. Alice Gregg and Lucille, Springfield, were Sunday guests at the home of Addie Libby. She was formerly Alice Smith, a former teacher in the Jefferson school. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. McKee plan to leave for Cannon Beach Thurs day, where they will spend a- day vacation. Their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Benninghoff, and Joe and Paul, Portland, wil join them there. Farmer Dies at Broadacres, Rites Today WOODBURN Peter Au trust Carlson died Monday at his home near Broadacres where - he has farmed for the past 19 years. He has lived in Oregon for 28 years. coming here from Thief River Falls, Minn. He was born in Swe den June 3, 1860 and was a mem ber of the Lutheran church. He is survived by his wife. Anna, and seven steD children. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Rin go chapel in Woodburn. Interment win be in Belle Passi cemetery. Rev. Oluf Asper will be the offi ciating minister. Perrydale Teachers Attend Convention PERRYDALE The teachers of the school here attended the teachers convention in Portland Friday and Saturday. On their return trip to Silver ton the Prices called on Davis who has been confined to the tuber cular hospital at Salem for the past eight months. He was report ed much improved. ANGEL The school board of St' Mary's school at Mt Angel announced Tuesday that with the resumption; Of classes after the Easter holidays there would be a half hour more school each day, that is" classes would not be dis missed, until 4:30 pjn. instead of 4 o'clock as at present This arrangement will cause the closing of school for the summer vacations to come three days ear lier. Closing of school was orig inally set for May 29, now it will be May 26. Easter holidays began Thurs day, April 2. Classes will reopen Tuesday, April 7. Leroy Schwab, 3-year-old son of Mr, and Mrs. Louis Schwab, had his thigh bone broken Monday when the end of a truck rack, with which he and a cousin were play ing, fell on him. His brother and cousin, 7-year-old boys, lifted him into an ex press .wagon" and took hint home and then ran for the' mother, who was at a neighbors. By this time the screaming child's leg was in a badly swollen condition and he was rushed to the 'Silverton' hos pital. - . . Tuesday it was reported that it would be several days before the leg could be put into a cast due to the swelling. Accepts New Position WHEATLAND Hazel Swan son, Portland, teacher at the Wheatland school the last two years, has accepted the position as teacher of the fifth and sixth grades in a four-room school at the Stella Magladry district near Eugene in Lane county.
