March nelius Warmerdam, trained and tested for the greatest leap of his life, will try to clear the unprecedented height of 16 feet here . Friday night The 26-year old Piedmont high man ever to vault 15 feet or bet r, will be the featured attraction .of an. all star athletic cast in the , Olympic club Indoor track and field meet. Warmerdam first explored the 15-foot stratum in April, 1940. In an he has ridden his bamboo pole to that height or over 16 times. Last month in the east on two consecutive week-ends, he upped the indoor record three times, the last to the amazing height of 15 feet 7 inches; It made bis outdoor record of 15 feet . 5 Inches, set last year, almost in cidental by comparison. - The 16-foot vault, ridiculed by many not so long ago as a physi cal impossibility, actually is with in Warmerdam's capabilities. He has been over at the height, only to brush off the bar on the down plunge. To facilitate the record at tempts, his coach, Charley Hunter of the Olympic club, has provided - a 140-foot runway in the civic auditorium. Warmerdam's com petition will come from Bill .- Schaeffer of the. University of Southern : California and Guinn Smith of California but he proba bly will take up from where they leave off.
