Grain Market
i Gains Short
!
i : CHICAGO. Jan. 2HJP)-Soy
bean futures were the only com
modity on the board of trade that
succeeded in going places Tues
day. In a late burst of activity,
soybeans shot up as much as two
cents a bushel to the highest levels
In more than four months.
The May contract closed at
to $1.92, op 1U to
cents and the July at $1.93,
an advance of 1 cents. Re
vival of talk that a "floor"
mlcht be established under
bean prices to stimulate pro
duction and the firm tone of
cotton futures were responsible
for the rise.
Wheat, corn and oats traveled
aimlessly within a narrow range
around the previous closing levels
and each showed small net gains
for the day, but rye was under
: pressure most of the session and
' finished about unchanged to Y
cent lower.
Final prices for wheat were
to V cent higher than the pre
vious close. Mav $1.30-. July
$1.32-1.32; corn gained to ,
May 85-86; oats were to
higher and lard was 2 cents a
hundred lower on the January
delivery to 5 cents up on the
deferred.
