Emmons and daughter, Miss Margaret Jane Emmons. They left Portland on the streamliner on , December 19 and arrived in Salem Sunday night In Lansing, Michigan, they picked up a new car and from there went on to Chicago to spend several days. For Christ mas they were in Athens, Ohio, as guests of Dr. -Emmons brother-in-law and sister, Professor and Mrs. L. C. Mitchell. They were joined there by Dr. Em mons mother, Mrs. W. W. Em mons and sister, Miss Lucille Emmons, of Chicago. After leaving Ohio the travel lers visited in Washington, DC, and drove down along the At lantic seaboard where they toured along the Florida coast for a week. Stops were made in Charles ton, South Carolina, New Or leans, Texas, New Mexico and the Carlsbad Caverns. In Los Angeles they were guests for a few days of Mrs. Emmons brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Armspiger. Wedding Dates Are Set Two brides-elect have an nounced their wedding dates. Miss Cleo Nissen, who earlier in the month revealed her be trothal to Mr. Oscar Swenson, has set the date for Sunday, February 1. The wedding will be performed at the Immanuel Lutheran church in Albany. The news was told Saturday night during intermission at the Beta Chi sorority formal. Scrolls with the names and date were tied to the sherbet spoons. Miss Charleen Edwards and Mr. Vernon Obert, who an nounced their engagement on New Year's will be married on Saturday, February 7. The bride-elect is now attending Northwest Nazarene college and will return to Salem the end of the month. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Edwards of Salem. New council officers will be elected at the meeting and plans for the 1942 program of the or ganization will be formulated. The meeting will begin with a dinner at 8:30 o'clock. "National defense offers the Camp Fire Girls organization new interests and duties," Brian Conley, president of the Salem . council, said." In this national emergency, Camp Fire principles of service to home and commu nity take on new meanings, the full realization of .' which will be the principal objective of the Salem organization during the ensuing year." The Salem Camp Fire girls received national recognition from their organization in 1941 when . girls voluntarily gave up an outing and went to bean fields in this vicinity to that important crop.
