SILVERTON Fifty-year anniversary plans for Trinity
were started Wednesday at the annual congregation meeting.
Plans call for a celebration in June but the exact dates will not
be set until early in February when tentative program arrange
ments will also get under way.

Torvend, Amos Corhouse, with
Althea Meyer and Lillie Madsen
as assistants.

Fischer was hostess at her home
to members and friends of the
Union Hill grange Home Eco
nomics club.

became new members of the club.
Arrangements were made to
entertain the Marion county Po
mona grange when it meets with
the Union Hill grange January 21.
Mrs. John Steinberger, chair
man, presented a program in

Mrs. Verny Scott, Mrs. J. C.
Krenz and Mrs. Phillip Fischer
took part.

The $2500 will he used to repaint,
reshingle and otherwise repair
the church, to complete a side
walk! around the new parsonage.

Trinity church is completely out
of debt with the exception of the
new parsonage completed in early
December. Funds to cover this
has been pledged for a five-year
period. However, members of the
board explain, should the funds
be received before the debt will
be paid off.
Election of officers Wednesday
night was held with Oscar Satern,
Ed Anderson and Clifford Eklund
elected to the board. Eklund will
swerve the unexpired term of W.
C. Larson, who resigned because
of his work which does not enable
him to be in attendance at reg
ular board meetings.

Holden were elected financial sec
retaries; John Moe, treasurer;

Fisher Rites
Held Today
At Albany
ABANY Funeral services for
Mrs. Cora E. Fisher, 60, wife of
R. J. Fisher, who died at the fam
ily home on route two Thursday
morning after a few days illness,
will be held from the Fisher Fu
neral home this afternoon at 2
o'clock. Rev. J. O. McDonald will
conduct the services. Burial will
be in Riverside cemetery.
Mrs. Fisher was born June 1,
1881, in Fairmount, Minn. In 1904
she came to Oregon with other
members of her family. On Octo
ber 6, 1909, she was married to R.
J. Fisher in Albany, and the fol
lowing year they moved to Al
berta, Can. In 1914 they returned
to Albany and had made their
home here since." She was a mem
ber of the United Presbyterian
church.
Surviving besides the widower
are a daughter, Mrs. Clyde Beam,
Bend; three brothers, E. C, W. L.,
and H. J. Chambers, all of Al
bany; and two nieces, Mrs. J. H.
Irvine, Lebanon, and Mrs. Robert
Brownley, New York City.

Mrs. Howard
ALBANY Funeral services for
Mrs. Lulu Howard, 68, member of
an Oregon pioneer family and a
resident of Albany for many years,
were held from the Keeney Fu
neral home in Corvallis Friday af
ternoon. Burial was in Willam
ette Memorial park, Albany.
Mrs. Howard died in the Cor
vallis General hospital Wendnes
day afternoon following an ill
ness of a week.

March 17, 1873, the deceased was
a daughter of Harvey L. and Jo
sephine Jones, Amity. She spent
the early years of her life in Am
ity, graduating from the high
school there. She later was grad
uated from Linf ield college, Mc
Minnville. On January 8, 1896,
she was married to J. A. Howard,
Amity, following her marriage
she made her home in Albany for
a number of years.
In, 1920 Mrs. Howard accepted
a position at Oregon State college
as housing and employment sec
retary for the YMCA, a position
which she held until a year ago
when she resigned because of
failing health. Since 1934 she had
been in complete charge of men's
housing and employment at the
college. She was a member of the
Corvallis Methodist church.
Surviving are two sons, J. Fran
cyl, editor of Greater Oregon
newspaper, Albany; and Fred,
Portland; one daughter, Mrs. Paul
West, Salem; one sister, Mrs. Ber
nard Christensen, Corvallis; and
one brother, Herbert Jones, Grants
Pass. She is also survived by the
following grandchildren, James
and Maryan Howard, Albany;
Robert, Jerald and Kathleen How
ard, Portland, and Diane and Ju
dith West, Salem.

The firemen have Instituted a
waste paper drive and are asking
the community to cooperate in the
collection of old newspapers, mag
azines, card , board and paper car
tons. They ire requesting that the
papers be securely tied or packed
in paper cartons to facilitate han
dling, and to be left at the fire
station. Any considerable, quanti
ty will be called for 'and hauled
away if word is left with any
member of the fire department
Officers were all reelected for
the ensuing year: Albert Jensen,
fire chief; Archie Rankin, assist
ant chief; and Earl Prather, sec
retary-treasurer. Orrin Schollian
and Kenneth Barber were th4
committee serving refreshments.
Mrs., Frank Parr - entertained
members of the Sunshine club at
her home and the afternoon was
spent in sewing for the Red Cross.
The group has dispensed with
club activities to accept the Red
Cross sewing program in the com
ing months. Mrs. Henry Bower
was elected new president of the
club at this meeting.
Other officers include Mrs. Curt
Mellis, vice-president, and Mrs.
Frank Parr, secretary-treasurer.
Attending were Mrs. W. R. Hog-
sed, Mrs. Earl Standley and Bar
bara, Mrs. C. Mellis, Mrs. L. E.
Peterson, Mrs. A. E. Spencer, Mrs.
Guy Dow, and the hostess, Mrs.
Parr. The club plans to meet
Wednesday probably at the home
of Mrs. Guy Dow to continue with
