In How Green Wu My Valley" Yoonf Roddy learnt the manly art

and brothers are proud of the plucky lad's determination.
Donald Crisp and mother Sara
Allgood rive their approval to
their prospective daogiiter-in-
law, lovely Anna Lee
The dialogue in 330 out of the 356 scenes is exactly'as Llew
ellyn wrote it, reports Philip
Dunne, the scenarist assigned by
the 20th Century-Fox . studio to
prepare the novel for the screen.
The other scenes are transitional.
"Production Chief Darryl F.
Zanuck instructed me, when I
started work on the script, to fol
low the book as closely as possible
not only in story but also in dia
logue," said Dunne, "and that is
exactly what I did."
The film, which features Walter
Pidgeon, Maureen O'Hara, Don
ald Crisp, Anna Lee and Roddy
McDowaU, has been budgeted as
the most costly of the year. One
set alone, which duplicates a
Welsh town, cost $120,000.
Also in the cast of "How Green
Was My Valley," the 20th Century-Fox
film which Academy
Award winner John Ford direct
ed, are John Loder, Sara Allgood,
Barry Fitzgerald and Patric
Knowles.
Philip Dunne adapted the screen
play from the Llewellyn novel,
and Alfred Newman directed the
musical background.
