'Bundles' Office In New Spot New responsibilities have been taken on by women who run the "Bundles for Britain" offices, which will be opened in new quarters in the Bush-Breyman building this morning. The of fices at 147 North Commercial street are larger than the previ ous quarters across the street. New activities include a "Bun dles for Bluejackets" division, where knitting is to be done for men of the United States navy. Offices are to be open from 12:30 to 5 o'clock Wednesdays, Thursday and Fridays. Yarn may be purchased at a noniinal rate for knitting into garments. This branch of Bundles for Brit tain is one of the 1100 organized throughout the nation in the past 18 months. Sweaters, socks, scarves and gloves are being knitted for both British sailors and air corps men, and American sailors. The Bun dles offices has sent many hun dreds of garments, to the Port land headquarters in the past year, which have been shipped to Britain. The Salem office also has assisted . in maintaining a children's ward in Queen's hos pital, London. Victory Ball Date" Set February '14 has been set as the. date for the annual Junior Woman's , club f ormal dance. Miss Maria Dare heads the di rectorate for the affair. This year the dance will be known as the Valentine Victory ball. Proceeds will be used to buy defense bonds. Is Told Revealed today is announce ment of the coming marriage of Miss Margaret Chadwick, daugh ter of Mayor and Mrs. W. W. Chadwick, and Mr. Harland Melvin Krause, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Krause of Wisconsin. The wedding will be an event of Saturday, January 31, and will be performed at the home of the bride-elect's parents. Miss Chadwick attended Ore gon State college for three years and wears the Kappa Kappa Gamma key. She is now associ ated with the Greyhound ticket office. Mr. Krause received his edu cation in Wisconsin and Is now with Lever brothers. Engagement Of Couple Revealed Miss Elsie Schneider is now wearing a diamond on the third finger of her left hand. Her fiance is Mr. Thomas Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Burke Wil liams of Salem. There has been no date set for the wedding. The bride-elect, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacques Schneider of Summit, attended schools in Philomath and has resided in Salem for several years. Mr. Williams is a graduate of Salem schools and attended George Washington university in Washington, DC. He is now with Boeing Aircraft in Seattle. War Mothers Are Guests of VFW The Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary held their regular bus iness meeting Monday night at the Veterans hall. - Miss Zelma Boone was ini tiated. Special guests during the evening were a group of war mothers. Mrs. Frank Perketts, president of the American War Mothers in Salem, presented the auxiliary with an American flag. Mrs. Sarah Peterson, state presi dent of the mothers, gave a short talk and Mrs. George Lewis re sponded and told a brief part of her trip from Hawaii and how much the flag really means to us. Other mothers present were Mrs Minnie Humphreys, Mrs. Addie Curtis and Mrs. Botts. The daughters unit were also guests of the evening. Mrs. Virgil Bolton, Red Cross chairman, reported ' sewing had been done for the Red Cross and the auxiliary meets every Friday afternoon at the Singer Sewing Machine company to continue this work. She also stated a first aid class has been organized and meets every Wednesday night at the old high school building. . For national defense the club voted to buy a defense bond.
