candy distributed from a beauti
fully decorated tree.

Siren Signals
SCIO The Scio fire siren will
blow four long blasts, a pause,
and another four long blasts, only
fori a real air raid warning, it
was decided byj the mayor and
local ARP committee.
Practice blackouts and council
meetings will be heralded by
ringing of the city; hall bell. The
fire siren will continue to blow
one blast each noon, and three
long blasts for volunteer fire de
partment meetings each second
and fourth Monday; nights.
Previous signals for location of
fires will continue in effect. Fire
Chief G. F. Bryan announces.

Raffety, who died at the family
home south of Independence Sun
day. Rev. Loyal H. Vickers, pastor of
the First Baptist church, Indepen
dence, officiated at the services
and interment was in the I OOF
cemetery.
Mrs. Rafefty was the daughter
of John and Laura Mode and was
born in North Carolina October
19, 1880. On October 20, 1896 she
was united in marriage to Henry
Raffety and the couple came to
Oregon in 1902. She was a mem
ber of the Christian church for
many years.
Surviving are Henry Raffety,
husband; one son, Ernie; four
daughters, Mrs. Wright Huber,
Mrs. Art Ookke, Mrs. Leo Callies
and Mrs. Ted Funk, all of Hoqui-am,-
Wash.; her father, J. W. Mode,
Independence; nine brothers, Ros-
coe Mode, Centralia, Wash., Jack
Mode, Watterville, Mack Mode,
Hoquiam , Wash., Henry, Bill,
Charlie and Joe Mode; Indepen
dence, and Bob and. Dock Mode,
Willamina; -two sisters, : Mrs. Max
Simpson, Monmouth, and Mrs.
Annie Bridges, Portland; seven
