Wet SoU Slows Mart
On Winter Radishes
PORTLAND, Dec. --(-Rad
ishes were almost too few to
quote on the East Side Farmers'
wholesale market Wednesday be
cause of wet soil conditions which
prevented harvesting.
They were in active demand
and quoted nominally at 20 cents
dozen bunches for the winter
ripe, 25-30 cents for spring sorts.
Green onions were firmer to
higher at 25-30 cents dozen
bunches. Cauliflower sold higher
at $1.35-40 crate general top.
Carrots moved rapidly at 25-30
cents dozen bunches.
Grain Market
Demand Good
CHICAGO, Dec 3-i-Incr eas
ed demand for cash grain and
flour helped to lift wheat futures
here almost 2 cents a bushel
Wednesday to the highest level
since early October.
Strength of securities and cot
tini and a statement of Price Ad
ministrator Henderson predicting
a further rise in the cost of liv
ing also were bullish factors.
After -the extreme advance in
wheat, with soybeans up more
than 3 cents at the time, profit
taking reduced the gains. Some
selling was associated with sug
gestions that the higher level of
prices may stimulate redemption
of grain under loans and acceler
ate producer sales. Spot wheat
here was quoted more than 3
cents a bushel above the 'level at
which farmers can obtain loans;
at Kansas City No. 2 hard wheat
was 6 to 11 cents over the loan
basis; at St Louis, No. 2 red was
8 cents over.
Wheat closed -lH higher than
Tuesday, December $1.18-1.1??,

Wool in Boston
BOSTON. Dec. 3 ( AP) (USDA)
The Boston wool market was much
more active following the announce
ment of new invitations to bid on gov
ernment orders for eight and a half
million yards of heavy woolen over
coating and three and a half million
yards of wool lining cloth. Actual
sales were still rather limited, how
ever, as mill buyers were trying to
get options on wools to be used if
the mills should be awarded a con'
tract. Dealers' asking prices for do
mestic wools were firm to slightly
nigner.
