Martha Baye and Neal Lang rmra marriage of Screen Comedienne Martha Raye la heading for the divorce court as Neal Lang, the actress husband, plans to go to Miami, Fla., to file suit for divorce against her. The actress and Lang, former Miami hotel operator, were married last May 25 in Las Vegas, Nev. Miss Raye's former husbands were Buddy West more, of the Hollywood make-up family, and David Rose, the song writer. Miss Raye was quoted as saying that "from now on I'm going to be married only to my career." Knopf to Speak , At Silverton SILVERTON-4)r. Carl S. Knopf, president ofl Willamette university, will make nis first ap pearance in public at Silverton Monday when he will address the Rotary club. His subject will be of his own choosing. The Rotary club reports that at the recent Halloween party which it sponsored for the school folk, 450 theatre tickets and treats were distributed. Boots Grant's orches tra furnished the dance music, and 16 gallons of cider went with 50 dozen doughnuts to make the Ro tary party a success. 'Bob Dun can was chairman of the affair. Projects Planned By Lebanon VFW Card Party Set Monday Night WOODBURN St. Luke's parish will hold its next card party Mon day night. Mrs. T. C. LEBANON Department offi cers oi the veterans of Foreign Wars attended a called meeting of the Lebanon post Monday night at the home of Edwin Dailey. Sev eral members of other posts were present and told, the results of various projects discussed which had been tried by their posts. The post will first have a membership drive and will hold card parties at intervals during the winter. Meetings will be twice a month. Department Commander Lewis Starr and the department adjutant quartermaster came from Port land, District Commander Stan ley Tripp from Corvallis. Mrs. Tripp, district president of the auxiliary, came also. The auxiliary decided to sew for the Red Cross as well as for the veterans' hospitals and are to make a quilt for the VFW chil dren's home in Eaton Rapids, Mich. Friends oi the Builders class of the Methodist church are invited to meet with the members at the church basement Monday at 6:30 o'clock for a no-host supper and social. The supper will be served at 6:30 o'clock, followed by a study period conducted by the Sunday school superintendent, Kenneth Abbott A short business meeting will be held. Hosts will be Mr. and Mrs, Phil Hathaway. Quarterly conference was held at the Methodist church Friday evening with Dr. J. Edgar Purdy conducting the meeting. Later pictures were shown on "World Benevolences. - The Just-A-Mere card club was entertained at the L. L. Sloper home Saturday evening. The eve ning was spent in making record ing and playing "500." L. Sloper. Polk county institute was held at Dallas and Friday the tri-county institute, consisting of Marion, Clackamas and .Polk counties, met at Oregon City. Tuesday,' Armistice day, will be a holiday for the entire school. Sleep Voted Great Factor SILVERTON "Sleep' was voted the most important health factor influencing child's work in school, according to a poll tak en by Silverton' teachers and re ported upon by Helvie Silver at the Thursday meeting of the PTA. Hannah Olson presided before a large audience of parents. The program opened with group sing ing, led by Mrs. J. J. Lewis. H. W, Adams spoke on defense savings and the organization passed a reso lution endorsing the program. Urs. Margaret Lemke, RN, spoke on county health work and the aid of the' local health center, Florence Storey's .sixth grade pu pils gave a demonstration of chor al reading. - j ! Mrs. Theodore Hobart and Hel vie Silver were in chargej of the program. . During the tea hour, Mrs, Max Holland and Mrs. Frances Powers poured. Red Cross Meet Is Set Monday JEFFERSON A district meet ing of the Red Cross will be held Monday noon in the city hall, with a luncheon served to district chair men and other guests. Mrs. Da vid H. Looney, chairman of' the Red Cross work in the Jefferson community, announces speakers and other entertainment. She has named the following as roll call chairmen in their home districts: John T. Assisting were Thomas Dalke, Sam Brown, Otto Peterson, Dr. A. F. Goffrier, Leighton Dashiell, Fay Winchest er and John S. Friesen. In the evening the families of the men and officers of the Parent-Teacher association enjoyed a cooperative supper in the gymnasium. Principal Dashiell is supervis ing some of the school boys in working on the shed this week. Guests at the Fred Sellars home over the weekend were Orval Pack and Bud Gillette of Falls City. Mr.' and Mrs. Donald Kuhn and children were dinner guests at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Deyoe, at Dayton Sunday. Elmer Cook, city attorney, is away on an elk hunting vacation. Mrs. Albert Beckman and Betty Lou, Mrs. W. H. Zimmerman and Curtis, Mrs. Virgil White and Mrs. W. E. Seamster went to Portland on a business trip Thurs day.
