i1 Ruth Ford Will: Become Mrs. Johns at Home Ceremony Today 4 Rth Ford wiU become Mrs. Claude Marion Johns, jr., at a home ceremony this afternoon. The couple will exchange Vows at the Woahink Lake residence of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. James W, Ford of Gardiner. The bridegroom is the . son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude M, Johns of Salem. ' At 3 o'clock Rev.1 Hale Eubanks of Toledo will perform the marriage rues. Mrs. Phillip New myer of Portland, aunt of the" groom; will play the wedding s march. The altar will be of ; white chrysanthemums greens and white candles. , : ' Of Ivory satin i&. the bridal . dress which is designed with a .full gathered skirt extending Into a court train. A seed pearl, collar embellishes the tight-fit ting bodice which is fashioned; with a low waistline. From neck . line to waistline in front are tiny self covered buttons. The long sleeves are slightly gath ered at the shoulders. Her tulle veil is fingertip length and cascades from a seed pearl tiara. She will carry an all white wedding bouquet. Mrs. Henry Glaze (Margaret Keene) of Portland will be the matron of honor. Her gown is of French rouge crepe enhanced with matching velvet inserts on the bodice. She will carry white chrysanthemums. Mr. Courtney R. Johns of Portland will, stand with his brother as best man. - Mrs. Ford will wear pastel blue crepe for her daughter's marriage and Mrs. Johns will also wear a blue crepe frock. Reception to Follow There will be a reception after the wedding for the guests. Mrs. - Cal M. Young and Mrs. Hugh P. Ford of Eugene, aunts of the bride, will preside at the urn and cut the wedding cake. As sisting will be Mrs... Eugene M. Beverly Ann Morten of North Bend will pass the groom's cake. Receiving with the bridal party and the parents of the couple will be Mrs. James W. Ford, sr., of Eugene, grandmother of the bride. The couple will go south to San Francisco on their honey moon and for traveling the bride has chosen a taupe wool dress , with tweed jacket and brown accessories. Her beige top coat is trimmed with a fox collar to which will be pinned green or chids. Mr. Johns and his bride will reside in Salem at 1060 Lefelle street. Miss Ford is a University of Oregon alumna and her so rority is Delta Gamma. Mr. Johns attended George Wash ington university at Washing ton, DC, University of Southern California and University of Oregon. He is a graduate of the Willamette university College of Law. His fraternities are Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Delta Theta Phi, national law honorary. Mr. and Mrs. Ira FItt will have as their weekend guests Mr. and Mr. Harry Fredericks, Mr. and Mrs. Garfield Gilmore and daughter Elizabeth, and Miss Ruth Dowe of Portland. JSpears-GarnJobst H Miss Ruth Jean Garnjobst and Mr. Frank Herron Spears, , jr., will be married on "Thursday night at St. Paufs Episcopal church. Rev. George Herbert Swift will read the 8:30 o'clock service before a large group of friends. Miss Ruth Bedford will be the organist. The popular bride-elect is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J. H. Garnjobst. and her fiance is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Spears." Dr. Garnjobst will give his daughter in marriage and she has asked her .future sister-in-law, Miss Sybil Spears, to be her maid of honor. , Mr. Spears wilf stand with his. son as best man. The ushers will include Mr. James B. Young, Dr. Ralph E. Purvine, Mr. Jack McCullough, Mr. Jack Price, Mr. William Roberts of Port land and Mr. John Boyd of Hood River. There will be a reception at the Garnjobst home on . Oak street after the ceremony. The couple will leave immediately by car for Washington, DC, where they will make their home. Dyer-Burnside On Friday night Miss Clara Belle Burnside, daughter of Mrs. ... H. W. Burnside and the late Mr. Burnside, will become the bride of Mr. William Connell Dyer, jr., son of Mrs. Willian Connell Dyer. The ceremony will be quietly solemnized in the presence of the immediate family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Spears. Rev. George H. Swift will perform the service at 8 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. Claybourne Dyer, brother and sister-in-law of the groom, will be the couple's only attendants. A reception will follow the wedding. ARNEST Clever Table Will Win Cash Every woman knows that half the success of her dinner de pends upon the, appearance of the table. This week, five of the larger Salem women's organizations will compete to see which ex cells in table setting, and it will be fun for other women to see just what the best dressed Thanksgiving table will look like. Here's the idea: Each day a different club will arrange a Thanksgiving dinner table, using all the clever Ideas, beautiful appointments and colorful flow ers possible. Each day three judges will check the best points on that table. Qn Friday the judges, Mrs. T. A.' Livesley, Mrs. David Wright and Miss Maxine Buren, will get together and tally up the points for each club. They will award the $25 cash which Penney's store is offering and the -winner will be .an nounced in the Saturday morn ing Statesman. The prize table will again be arranged and put on display at the store again on Saturday. The idea is new in Salem and already it's attracting wide at tention. Women from over the valley are planning to come to town to see the clever versions of Thanksgiving dinner tables. The Penney's store, and The Oregon Statesman are cooperat ing to make this an interesting and thoroughly enjoyable show. Sim mons, Mrs. Adam Engel, Mrs. George Otten and Mrs. Walter Spaulding will assist the hostess. The freshmen mothers will be the hostesses and mothers of stu dents attending5 the University of Oregon are urged to attend and to bring thimbles as the aft ernoon will be given to sewing for the Red Cross. Mr. Glen Seeley, president of the Salem chapter of Oregon Mothers, and Mrs. J. Lyman Steed will pour at the tea hour. Captain Louis B. Schoel arriv ed by plane this' weekend from Fort Ord., Calif., and is visit ing in Portland at the home of his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs, Roy Burnett Captain and Mrs. Schoel will drive south the first of the week where they have taken a bouse in Carmel.
