Mrs. Beuna M. Maris, dean of
women at Oregon State college
will be the guest speaker at the
regular meeting of the Salem
Woman's club on Saturday af
ternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
Mrs. Maris took office of dean
of women in July, succeeding
Miss Kate Jameson. She re
ceived her bachelor of arts de
gree from the College of Puget
Sound and her masters degree
from OSC She was instructor, in
family relationships at Oregon
State college for several years
and later state extension special
ist in the same field. Her sub
ject "Changing Values in Our
Culture," will follow along the'
line of family relationships.
The board meeting convenes
at 2 o'clock,' just before the gen
eral meeting with Mrs. George
Swift presiding. Beryl Yocom
will furnish music.
Eastern Star
At Session
At the regular meeting of
Chadwick Chapter, Order of the
Eastern Star held on Tuesday in
Masonic temple many guests
were present from other ' chap
ters. Adah chapter of Independ
ence and Ramona chapter of Sil
verton were special guests.
The chapter room was decorat
ed with large bowls of begonias
placed at all stations. Corsages
were presented to the visiting
members.
Four new members were
made by Mrs. Paul Hauser, sr.,
past worthy grand matron, Mrs.
Clara Van Loan, matron of Adah
chapter, Mrs. Thoma Hollings
worth, worthy matron of , Ra
mona chapter and Mr. J. W.
Moore, worthy patron of ever
green chapter. New members al
so spoke.
At the close of the evening,
refreshments were served from
tables decorated with the Hal
loween motif. The dining room
was in charge of Mr. and Mrs.
E. T. Hartwell and their com
mittee.' Mrs. E. E. Gettman enter
tained the FOE auxiliary at a
covered dish dinner Tuesday
night. Final plans were com
pleted for the birthday party on
November 4. Auxiliaries invited
to take part Include Portland,
Oregon City, Newberg, McMinn
ville and Albany. Games and
entertainment followed the bus

girls are motoring to Astoria this
weekend to attend the annual
Astoria-Salem football game.
