Jefferson Teachers Present
Plea for Raise in Salary
JEFFERSON Grade, and high school teachers in the Jef
, ferson schools met with the school board asking for a 10 per
cent raise in salary. This request was due to action taken at the
Marion county teachers' meeting in Salem, when the matter was
discussed, and a motion passed
that teachers of all schools ask
for the raise.
"Each teacher gave a short talk,
giving reason for the need of sal
ary raise at this time. They also
made a -motion that the matter be
left entirely in the board's, hands
for approval or rejection. No del
mite action was taken at the meet
ing,, the , board asking to consider
the" request further,

at Fort Tilden.
For half an hour without gas
masks they advanced by rushes
through a heavy fog of gas and
smoke to capture the "enemy's"
gas battery. They were - half
blinded when they reached their

that battery functions again.
