She also has been a member of the YWCA board and worked on various committees during the Community Chest campaigns. Schannep was in charge of arrangements and assisting .her were Mrs. Jack Cutler, Mrs. Daniel, J. Fry, r, Mrs. R. L. Wright, Mrs. W. L Staley and Mrf. George R. K. Moorhead. 'The tables were dec orated with autumn flowers. Mrs. George Herbert Swift, presided at the opening session and gave an outline of the com ing year's work. The club en dorsed the home county agent for Marion county. Reports on the state convention held in Cor vallis were given by Mrs. George R. K. Moorhead, Mrs. Charles A. Ratcliff, Mrs. Glenn Paxson and Mrs. I. M Schannep. Mrs. Thome Hammond reported for the Salem Junior Woman's club and Mrs. Ronald Craven was in troduced as the delegate-at-large to the national convention. Mrs. Joseph Felton told of her duties as page to Mrs. Saidie Orr Dunbar at the national fed' eration convention In Atlantic City. Mrs. Clifton: Mudd, a del egate to the national convention from the Salem club, gave a de tailed story of the sessions. At the next regular meeting on September 27, Mrs. Saidie Orr Dunbar, past national feder ation president, will be the guest ' speaker. Her topic will be "Thinking North and South." This will be an open meeting for all interested persons and mem bers of other organizations and the Junior Women are invited to attend. St. Anne's Guild At Kirk Home St Anne's Guild members of St Paul's Episcopal church will gather for their first fall, meet ing on Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Walter Kirk on South High street at 2 o'clock. The assisting hostesses are Mrs. C. Kenneth Bell, Mrs. Wil bur Berry, Mrs. Wallace Carson and Mrs. Robert Sears. Mrs. Breyman Boise is the new presi dent and will preside at the business session. Next week wul be devoted to . the Army, which will sponsor two evening programs at the Center. On Tuesday night Col onel W. D. Luplow, commanding Officer of the 29th engineers bat v talion, will give a lecture! and demonstration, "Map-making by the west Coast Army Engineers' at 8 o'clock in the main gallery. Friday night Major E. J. Rossi ter,. retired British army officer, (Will present a motion picture, "How Americans are Helping in the Defense of London." Both of these programs will be free and open to the public. The present Art Center sched ule will remain in effect until the emergency need in seasonal occupation is relieved. The gal leries are open daily from 12:00 to 5:38 o'clock and evenings from 7 to 9M o'clock. The Art Center is located at 460 North High street in the old high school building. Sobers Rawson's study class will meet on Tues day night at 8 o'clock. The score and libretto of Wagner's Tatin- hauser will be studied at this I time. i y f MacDowell C1ud To Open Season Opening its 23d year of activ ity and promotion of music In terest in the capital Monday night will be the MacDowell club, one of Salem's oldest mu sical organizations. The first meeting will be held at the chamber of commerce at 7:30 o'clock with Miss Lois Stelnke, president, presiding. An invita tion is extended to anyone Inter ested in singing with the chorus ior the coming year to attend the meeting. Miss Steinke announces that Mr. Bernard Barron of Portland, well known musician- of Port land and Salem, will again con duct the chorus, and Jean Hob- son Rich will succeed Miss Fla- via Downs as accompanist. Miss Downs will attend University of Oregon at Eugene. Mrs. Rich has been a resident of Salem for a number of years, matriculating at Salem schools and studying with Salem music teachers. She has also studied music with Lillian Plogstedt of the Cincinnati conservatory of music, Cincinnati, Ohio. Mrs. Rich is well known in music cir cles as a teacher and accompan ist. She has served in the latter capacity with the Ladies Madri gal club, the American Legion auxiliary trio, and the Willam ette Glee club and at present is organist for the First Congrega tional church. Oregon City Host To DAR Members DAR chapter members of Dis trict No. 1 have invited mem bers of Distrist No. 2, including the Chemeketa chapter, to meet at Oregon City on Wednesday, September 17, at 10 o'clock in the morning at the First Con gregational church.
