Cherry Growers Should Spray, Says Agent ' Because recent rains have can celed the good done by other ap plications and the chertV fruit flies have now reached the peak of emergency, growers are Urged by-Robert E. Rieder, acting coun ty agent, to apply tne second spray for control of the fly. Recommended spray is lead ar senate five pounds; cheap' molas ses five gallons; and water 100 j iion. rnis snould be a thor ough bait spray, reaching every part of the tree, Rieder said. Some growers have indicated that they will use the lime sul phur spray, as follows: Liquid lime sulphur two gallons; lead ar senate 2ft pounds; water 100 gal lons. If this spray is used, it must be remembered that it should be applied very thoroughly, since i it Js not a bait spray, but a Cover age spray. Due to possible spray injury, six pounds of wettable sulphur may be used instead of the two gallons of liquid lime sulphur. Beiin Crop S Looks Good Acreage Increased in Two Areas ;. Cherry Pickers Needed Prospects for a good bean crop are evident in i the Stayton and West Stayton areas, according to W. H. Baillie, manager of the Sa lem office of the state employ ment service, who, with Richard PicKell, junior I employment offi cer, and Bert Thorsell, field man. has been conducting a survey of the district ' i Bean acreage in the areas has been increased about 25 per cent, Baillie said, and harvest should start about July 15 and continue almost until hop picking time. Hoeing, stringing a n d training will be in full (wing next week. To assist both pickers and growers a branch office of the employment service will be opened in the bean picking area. Between 300 and 400 orders for cherry pickers in Marion county are on file at the employment service of fice here. Harvest of the very light crop is expected to reach its peak before June 20. Picking of strawberries is pret ty well under control, Baillie said, but will probably continue about two weeks. Harvest of youngber ries, loganberries and boysenber ries is beginning.
