I A wide variety of fine recipes was given by Miss Barbara
. Miller at the Statesman's "Happy Kitchen" cooking show on
Wednesday afternoon. Hundreds of women from Salem and
-vicinity attended this, the first of a series of three cooking shows
being presented at the 5a Jem ar

noon. The program is free, and
every Statesman reader is invited

baying supplies and arranging

Recipes to be featured today

pared by Miss Miller during the

SILVERTON Rex Appleby and
Victor Kroneberg, both -injured in
the accident near Mt. Angel Mon
day, which took the life of Jeno
Bean, were reported as getting
along as well as could be ex
pected at the Silverton hospital
Monday.
Appleby, who sustained a frac
sciousness and while his condi
tured skull, had regained con
tion was considered very seri
ous, it was not believed critical.
Kroneberg, who was least injured,
was getting along very well.

West Salem Council Grants !
Co-op Spur Track Rights f
WEST SALEM -The Blue Lake Cooperative Producers were
granted a right to build a railroad spur adjacent to the north side
of their property Monday evening at the city council meeting,
The ordinance permitting , the
privilege was read twice with an
agreement that the ordinance
would be accepted after proper
amendment upon the third read
ing. The Producers agreed to
amendment of the ordinance to
grant the right of use of the spur
to any new industry, upon pay
ment of a share of ; construction
cost. " .!'
The council voted that the city
would pay for no private prop
erty damage caused by paving or
street work, only in cases in
which they had made such agree
ment at the time. !
The city attorney and the
property control committee were
authorized to negotiate with the
county, for purchase of property
by the city. j
Roy Douglas, city treasurer and
marshal, was granted a ten-day
vacation beginning June 11.
