Rites Monday
1: St. Joseph Catholic church was the setting of a beautiful
wedding on - Monday afternoon when Miss Margaret Louise
Hayes received her golden circlet from Lt. Thomas L. Hayes, jr.
United States army air corps.
.1 It was at 4 o'clock that Father T. J. Bernards read the serv
ice before a gathering of Salem and Portland friends of the
couple,
t.t Hare, who arrived on
Friday from Hamilton Field,
Calif, is the son of the Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas I Hayes of Port-'
land and the bride is the attrac
tive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.
Folsom Hayes of Brooks.
White peonies, larkspur and
snapdragons combined " with
palms and white cathedral tap
ers decorated the altar and chan-
eel of the church.! Miss Myrtle
Meier sang "Ave Maria' before
the wedding and Mrs. Raymond
Barton was the organist ,
Mr. Hayes escorted his daugh
ter to the altar where her bridge
groom and his best man, Mr.
Donald Jensen of r Portland,
awaited her at the chanceL ,
White satin was chosen for the
bridal gown. The full skirt term
inated in a short train and the
sweetheart neckline was - en
hanced with seed pearls. The
fitted bodice was embellished
with tiny self covered buttons
from neckline to waitline in back.
The long sleeves with a point
over each wrist were tight
fitting with fullness at the
shoulders. !
A fitted cap of tulle trimmed
with seed pearls held in place
her fingertip length veil. She
carried a white prayer book and
a white orchid.
The bride's only attendant was
her sister, Miss Adele Hayes. Her
frock was of peach marquisette
fashioned with full skirt, bishop
sleeves and a high neckline em
bellished with a lace yolk. Her
shoulder length veil of peach was ;
"held in: place with Cecile Brun-;
ner roses and her colonial nose
, gay was of sweet peas and Cecite
Brunner roses.

Mrs. Ilayes wore a stunning floor
length' model of beige trimmed
with cerise, beige turban and
gloves. Mrs. Thomas L. Hayes
was gowned in a royal blue lace
, frock and a matching hat
. The Hayes home at Brooks was
the scene of the reception after ,
the wedding for members of the
bridal party and the. immediate
family Mrs. Anthony J. Dwyer,
sister of the bridegroom, cut the
' bride's cake.
' Among the out-of-town guests
r at the wedding were Dr. and Mrs.
John L. Hardy of Seattle, brother-in-law
and sister of the groow.
Miss June Van Arsdell of San
Jose, Calif., aunt of the bride,
and Mr. Richard Piowaty of
Chicago.
When the couple left on their
wedding trip the bride was wear
ing a red and green paisley print
on a white background made

For Artists
A reception and lecture will
be held at the Salem Art Center
today i in connection with the
show of modern paintings by
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Camflerman

the radio during the regular Art
Center time this afternoon at
2:15 o'clock. A tea and reception
will be given at the Center for
the visiting artists from 4 to 5
o'clock. Mr. Camff ermants lec

clubs throughout the state will
gather in Corvall'j this week to
attend the 34th convention .of
the Oregon Federation of Wom
en's clubs.

Woman's club house.

Ratcliff, Mrs. Glen Paxson, and

preside at a discussion meeting
on the Friday morning program.
Mrs. Glen Paxson, as retiring
president of the Salem Woman's
club will give a triennial report
of the club's work. Dressed in an
old-fashioned costume she- will
take her place with other presi
dents in the march of the "Gay
- Nineties Revue."
- Mrs. -Jessie Singleton, state
poetry ,-. chairman, will present
the poetry prize at the Fine Arts
evening meeting, on Wednesday.
At this same meeting Mrs.
Mark McCallister, state music
chairman, who has been resid
ing in Corvallis but stQl has kept
her membership- in the Salem
club, will direct the choral con
test in which a number of clubs
' will participate.
