STAYTON At the city council
meeting it; was proposed to amend
the city's building ordinance so as
to permit! construction of. frame
buildings on the west side of Sec
ond street between Water and Ida
streets. A- C VanNuys and Gabe
Dejardin of the ordinance commit
tee were appointed to work with
the recoirder in preparing an
amendment to submit at the next
meeting.
It was decided that the council
will request the League of Oregon
Cities to make an estimate of the
cost of recodifying the city' or
dinances. It has been discovered
that many of the city's ordinances
are obsolete.
A change in accounting methods
was Held. It was suggested that
expenditures from month to month
could be checked against amounts
budgeted. ' ' -
No motions were made or votes
taken on any of these proposals
and suggestions. :'
The report of the water collec
tor, Edward J. Bell, listed billings
in April totaling $521.45. Delin
quencies aggregate only $167.45.

JEFFERSON Friday was an Ideal day for the May festival
in which the schools of Marion, Talbot, Looney Butte and Jef
xerson schools took part.

HIGH SCHOOL BAND

At 1 o'clock the coronation cere
monies took place in the tennis
court. The Jefferson band played,
while the queen ,01ga Schulz, and
her court took their places on the
platform. Prof. M. H. Beal was the
queen's escort, and placed the
crown on her head.
Princesses were Bette Terhune,
Alleen Chilton, Maxlne Etzel,
Johrfetta Davis, Beverly Wells, and
Dorothy Hague. Flower girls were
Lydia Brown and Willa Dean Cole;
trainbearers, Barbara Blackwell
and Eleanor Vose, and crown
bearer, BUlle Chain.
The program included songs by
the Jefferson primary chorus and
the Jefferson high school girls
chorus. Dancers were Blanche
Pilcher and Mildred Looney. The
winding of the Maypole by the
grade school children, closed the
program.

Silverton Woman's club Monday
when club members met at the
Silver Creek recreational park for
installation of officers.
Mrs. George Hubbs was ore-
sented a medal for being the long
est term member of the local club
and Mrs. H. B. Itham received
a civic service medal. Mrs. La
tham has been chairman of the
library board since its inception 22
years ago." Honor was also naid
the late Mrs. Sam Ames, a pio
neer member of the chib. These
honors were paid in keeping with
the Golden jubilee of the f edera
tlon and Mrs. F. Glenn McDonald
made the presentation. !

opened the day's observance. Dur
ing the luncheon. Harry Buckler.

acting in the absence of the Junior
past president, Mrs. Jonas Byberg,
presented Mrs. George Jaeschke,
outgoing president, with a , gift

annual woman's club library tea
to be held at the home of Mrs.
Reber, Allen on May 23. Mrs.
Latham is the general chairman of
arrangements.

church of North America wl be
held at the Grace Mennonite
church, 207 Jefferston street, Dal
las, from May 15 to 18. Delegates
will be present from Washington,
California, Idaho and Oregon.
Rev. Homer - Lelsy, Dallas, is
president of the conference.
It is scheduled to open at f
o'clock Thursday with a minis
ter's retreat At 150 pjn. there
will be: a worker's retreat The
