Community Clubs MACLEAY At the last meet ing of the Community club of the season, held Friday, plans were made for the school picnic to be held May 12 and for a community picnic to be held on June 29. Tom Burton presided, with Mrs. Wilbur as secretary. The program included guitar and harp music, John and Joe Wolf; vocal solo, Dolores Spelbrink; vocal solo, Hubert Aspinwall violin duet, Delbert Johnson and Earl Erhleman; vocal solo, Dick John son; skit, Mrs. C. Rites Slated For Thursday NORTH SANTIAM Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Clough-Barrick for August Schieman, 73, who died Monday at a Salem hospital. Schieman was born in eastern Germany and came to America in 1888, shortly afterwards bo coming a citizen of the United States and joining the Baptist church. He came to North Santiam in 1914 and was married in 1915 to Bertha Wruch. He is survived by the following children: Richard, Otto, Alfred, Josephine, Jesse, Marie, Myrna, Karlyne, Betty, Max in e and Marian HetzeL Bean Pickers Get Dollar per Hundred WEST STAYTON At a spe cial meeting of bean growers for the Stayton cooperative cannery, Blue Lake Producers, West Salem, and the independent growers held Friday it was voted to pay one dollar per hundred for bean pick ing with an additional IS cents for a bonus. School Has New Record SALEM HEIGHTS Salem Heights school 4H clubs, led by Principal Ira Dueltgen, have this year surpassed all former rec ords in the earning of 4H summer school scholarships. Fourteen members of the school clubs are now assured of' a trip to summer school at Corvallis and at least three others are ex pected to receive scholarships. The club members won. two blue, nine red and nine white ribbons at last week's county 4H show at the state fairgrounds, in addition to high places in demon stration events. .
