Today's high point of romantic news concerns Miss Martha Sprague, the
attractive daughter of Governor and Mrs. Charles Arthur1 Sprague, who told
her tea guests on Saturday that she will be married to Mr. Melvin Timothy
Hurley of San Francisco during the bridal month of June. Mr. Hurley is the
, son of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy A. Hurley of Paso Rabies, Calif.
The wedding is planned for the evening of June 1 4 and will take place
at the First Presbyterian church. Mr. and Mrs. Hurley are planning to come
north for their son's marriage. ,
- The betrothal news was revealed at a lovely tea for which the bride,
elect's mother was hostess at the Sprague home on North 14 th street Guests
called between 3:30 and 5 o'clock.
Miss Pauline Wallace, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul B. Wallace, passed
the announcement scrolls tied with tulle ribbon and silver bells. On the top
I. of each was a cluster of lilies-of-the-valley and forget-me-nots. Alcetta Gilbert,
: -daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tinkham Gilbert, greeted guests at the door,
Mrs. Sprague and her daughter received informally in the living room.
For her announcement party Miss Sprague wore a charming gown of aqua
marquisette, fashioned with lace inserts on the skirt and bodice. To her shoul
der was pinned an orchid corsage. Mrs. Sprague was gowned in white lace.
Assisting in the living room were Mrs. Edward O. Stadter, jr., and Mrs.
Wheeler R. English. .
. Mrs. Helen Webster Beelar cut the ices and Miss Mabel P. Robertson
poured. Serving were Mrs. Robert Sprague, Mrs. Manfred Olson-and Miss
Eleanor Trindle. The serving table was covered with a blue satin cloth and
the all-white centerpiece was of lilacs, tulips and cala lilies, flanked by ttall
white tapers. Bouquets cf mixed spring lowers were used about the guest
rooms. .
Miss Sprague and her fiance are graduates of Stanford university, where
the couple irsf met The bride-elect is a member of Ch Omega sorority. She
.resided, in The bay region for several .years-rfter sher graduation. Mr. Hurley .
will graduate from the Stanford medical school in June. He is'a member cf
Alpha Kappa Kappa, medical fraternity. The couple will live In San Francisco
after their marriage, while Mr. Jiurley internes at the San Francisco county
hospital.
