April 30, 1941, at the hour of 9
a. m.
General scope of examination,

nation by the city physician:
; Geography of the city,
Simple problems in arithmetic,
Spelling as generally used In
' making reports pertaining to fire
and firemen's reports.
Athletic tests as would be or
dinarily used in fire fighting.
Applicants must have been
bona fide residents of the City
cf Salem for at least one year
immediately previous to the date
' of the examination, and must
be registered voters.
The age limits are from 21
to 31 years.
Payj of firemen is $125.00 per
month for beginners. Applica
tion blanks may be obtained at
the office of the city recorder at
the city hall in Salem, Oregon,
where applications must be filed.
- No applications accepted after
April 25, 1941.

BOSTON. April 16 (APJ USDA)
Limited quantities of a few kinds of
domestic wools were selling in the Bos
ton market today. Graded combing
bright fleece wools brought 144-45 cents,
in the - grease, for three-eighths and
quarter blood grades. Early shorn 12
months Texas wools were sold at $1.05,
scoured basis, while asking prices on
contracted good 12-month wools rang
ed 81.07 to 81.10, scoured! basis. In
quiries were being received on fine
and half blood foreign wools but sales
were very slow. .

to the centers at. scheduled times
to.be assisted in making his mat
tress by local -supervisors.; Or
ganizations sponsoring the' various
community - r centers Include
granges. Farmers' - .' Unions and
women's clubs. -
A training school will be held in
this, "county on May 1 and 2 at
which time the local - supervisors;
who wiil start work at the centers,
will receive' training in mattress
making from representatives of the
OSC extension service.:
' Although - applications for the
mattresses : were 1 accepted only
from families with a stated mini
mum annual cash income, the pro
gram is definitely not a relief pro
gram, but rather is a means of dis
posing of some of the huge surplus
stocks of cotton, while at the same
time, increasing the standard of
living of many rural families. The
use of this surplus cotton also re
ciprocates the southern cotton
growers increasing use of vetches
and peas for. cover crop seed,
Nibler said,
.Some eastern - Oregon counties
have completed mattresses under I
this program and ; applicants are
enthusiastic Over the quality of the
product according to reports of ex
tension. . leaders. Experience in
other states has shown that -under
proper care, the mattresses will re
main in excellent condition for
years. -
Thrown From Horse

He was taken to the McMinnville
