Curriculum
As a reflection of this concept,
the curriculum of the early
grades of the Salom
been divided into 11 basic skills,
for living In the northwest.
Each skill is taught as an as
pect of living in a free land;
and also as a factor related to
other skills, as finely woven to
it as a day is joined to a full
life span.
This is the task of the school
system, of the 11 schools which
comprise it the hundreds of
teachers who teach in it board,
superintendents and principals
who direct it. It is a task which
reaches to the heart of the community.
Marion countywill-produce
practically everything grown in
the Mississippi valley, and then
you may add long fibre flax, fil
berts, English walnuts, Italian
prunes, loganberries, Bartlett
pears, Royal Anne and Lambert

tensive building program of it

It was completed at a cost of
$780,706.54 of federal and local
funds, and was constructed to
house more educational activi
ties than had ever been possible
in the old location at Cottage and
Marion streets. Its auditorium
has since become in large part
city auditorium for plays mu
sical events and public perform
ance of all sorts; and its in
structional facilities have more
recently been made use of by
the federal government in train
ing workers for defense indus
tries. Aoditorian Built
At Leslie junior high, the con
struction of an auditorium wing
at a cost of $209,577.99 accom
plished an educational as well
as a community purpose when
it became available for school
and public activities.
