industrial leaders were lifted
fractions!' to two points or so.
The ' Associated Press average
of 60 stocks retained a net gain
of 2 of a point at 41.6. Transfers
of 551,190 shares compared with
534,002 Wednesday and were the
largest since MarJch 10.
Much interest was expressed in
the private sale by underwriters
after the close of 259,983 shares
of Pennsylvania Railroad from
British holdings. The stock closed
up Vs at 24Vs and was sold at
this quotation. The offering was
said to have quickly been over
subscribed. Bolstering speculative spirits
was today's figures disclosing a
more than seasonal upturn in last
week freight loadings to the
highest level for any like week
since 1930.
Pullman shares ran up 2Vs
points to 26,, on announcement
the company had invited tenders
for purchase of its shares up to
$15,000,000. Continental Baking
preferred advanced AVi to 95 on
reports recapitalization plans wa
being! considered. This baking
company issue recorded a new
1940 high, along with Santa Fe
common and senior shares of Pere
Marquette and Gulf Mobile &
Ohio. j

A few kinds of domestic wools were
moderately active today In the Boston
market. Graded French combing fine
territory wools were bringing $1-$1.03
scoured basis. Original ;bag lines of
territory wools were bringing around
$1-$1.03 scoured basis for good French
combing length fine arid around $1
scoured basis for mixed fine and half
blood .wools of good French combing
length. Orders have been taken on
graded combing three-eighths blood
territory wool to be -delivered from
the new clup at &8-9d cents scoured

highest wheat and corn prices
since y last May today attracted
sufficlentj Profit taking sales to
check the recent slow but steady
grain market advance. ;
Wheat j pushed up i cent in
early trading. May reaching a
new seasonal high of SOU. best
price posted here since the sen
sational preak eight months ago,
except for 90 top hit by Decem
ber delivery on December 2.
Then the market tumbled more
than a tent and closed - at the
low point of the day, Vi-1 cent
lower than yesterday, May 88-
, and July 86-. Since Feb
ruary 18j wheat has gained 10 to
almost 14 cents.
Profit j taking was encouraged
by reports of increased movement
of free knd loan wheat in some
localities where prices are most
favorable for redemptions.

Methodist church are sponsoring
a spring bazaar on Friday after
noon, April. 4 in the Masonic hall
under the chairmanship of Mrs.
Fred Dierks.
Beginning at 1 o'clock there will
be booths of needlework, garden
plants and article and woodcraft
pieces. A silver tea will follow the
arranged program at 2:15 p.m.

enough on most farms to work

SCIO The Spencer cannery at
Lebanon a few days ago con
tracted for the pooled 1941 straw
berry crop of the Scio Fruit
Growers association, the price at
marketing time to be not less than
five cents per pound, according to
a statement by Ed Rubesh, sec
retary of the association.
. The Lebanon concern has pur
chased the crop for the last sev
eral years. Henry Thomas, Jor
dan, is president of the company.
