Carrots do not suffer as much
from crowding as most root
crops. Instead of thinning out
when they are tiny, they can be
allowed to grow unthinned,-until
the roots are of pencil size, and at
their most delicious stage of ten
derness and flavor. From this
stage until they are about half
grown, carrots are at their best,

about modern wall decoration.
It's just a different product than
it used to be, that's all.
Papers are washable now (that
means they won't spot when
grandpa leans his big black, wet
umbrella against the hall wall),
they are unitized (that means that
two rooms can be papered differ
ently but definitely go together).
There are surprising ideas, -loo.
For instance, you can put a dainty
stripe on your bedroom wall and
a floral pattern on the ceiling, then
lie there and enjoy it.
You can paper your bedroom in
a beautiful palmleaf pattern and
the bathroom, just off it, in a pa
per the same except with swans
or fish added.
You can use a beautiful stripe
on your own bedroom and the
same in baby's room except that
nursery figures have appeared.
And speaking of -baby's rooms,
the figured papers planned espe
cially for them are personality
plus. Lambs gamboling over the
wall are in pink and green, chil
dren's figures are topped by a
brilliant roman stripe ceiling.
And finally you can combine
plain stripes in the livingroom
with panels of matching figured
paper. Any number of combina
tions are possible, just sharpen
your imagination and go to it.
Some use a figured strip over
the mantel, behind the davenport,
or alternate the plainer and the
more ornate papers. Others use a
plain paper in an alcove and the
figured in the main room, and still
others use the plainer on all the
walls except one.
And a final hint, if you are dec
orating a new house, make the
doors flush with the walls and
paper them to match the walls. .
Mrs. Charles Felke will be host
ess to members of her club at
luncheon and bridge this after
noon at her Richmond street
home. Mrs. Wayne Bammett will
be an additional guest.

WOODBURN Miss Viola Mills
became the bride of Ivan Parker
at a candle-light ceremony in the
home of the bride's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Mills Wednesday.
The ceremony was read in front
of the fireplace, by Rev. Ralph
Smith.
The bride was given in mar
riage by her father. Her mother
sang, accompanied by Miss Gladys
Adams, who also played the wed
ding march. V
Following the ceremony a re
ception was held after which Mr.
and Mrs. Parker left for a few
days honeymoon at the coast.
Miss Patty Smith cut the wed-,
ding cake. ' .
The bride wore a brown suit
with matching accessories and a
corsage of yellow rosebuds. The
couple will make their home in
Eugene where Mr4 Parker will
complete his studies at the Uni
versity of Oregon. Both are grad
uates of Woodburn high. - Mrs,;
