Dance Will Follow Willamette university students are busy practicing for Freshman Glee this week, one of the high lights of campus activities for the year. . A number of alumni and out-of-town guests are expected to arrive in - the caoital this week end for the .affair. .Members of the student body are arranging an informal 'dance td follow the glee with members of the victorious class celebrat ing at the affair. . ;The dance will be held in the Armory with Dale Easley and his orchestra from Portland playing for the affair. Alumni, faculty, students and, guests are Invited to attend the dance. Patrons and patronesses will be Dr. and Mrs. & Franklin Thomp son, Professor 'and. Mrs. Robert Wilson, Professor and Mrs. Mau rice Brennan and Coach and Mrs. Boy S. Keene. ; Miss Mary Head, student body vice-president, is making ar rangements for the dance. Viola Jacobsen Honor Guest Mr. and Mrs. Axel Jacobsen gave a surprise party at their home on North Capitol street in honor of their daughter. Miss Viola Jacobsen, who celebrated her sixteenth birthday, Monday night. The St Patrick motif was car ried out in the table decorations, and the refreshments. -The eve ning was spent dancing and later in the' evening refreshments were served. Place cards and favors were placed for Verletta Jacobsen. Jean Justrom, Donna Donnell. The evening will be spent in formally and a late supper will be. served by the' hostesses. A shower will fete the bride-to-be during the evening. Laymen s Group Hears Speaker Best turnout to date since formation of the Leslie Methodist Laymen's association was present Tuesday night at Leslie Methodist church to hear Superintendent of Salem Schools Frank Bennett talk on "Bringing the People out of Bondage." Illustrating his talk, with numerous personal experi ences from many years spent in school and church activity, Mr. Bennett emphasized the need for a more energetic religious pro gram in the home and a keener awareness by the American peo ple . of the hard-won privileges and rights without which a demo cracy cannot exist. Entertainment was furnished by Albert Castillo, 15-year-old Sa lem high school violinist and member of the Salem Philhar monic Orchestra. A short talk was given by Mr. Ronald Ruddi man, Boy Scout executive, on "The Scouting program in Your Church." Special guests were Mr. Donald Davis and Mr. Walter Beck. Next meeting will be held at the church on April 22. Mr. Bill McCammon. son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McCammon of The Dalles, was in Salem last week for the state basketball tour nament and was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Carson. The Cars ons returned home with Mr. McCammon on Saturday for the weekend. Choir Feted at Cole Home Members of the choir of the First Christian Church enjoyed an informal evening at the Curtis C. Cole home on North Summer street on Monday. Games and decorations were carried out- in St. Patrick trend. Candles, white daffodils and spirea were used in effective arrangement. Buffet lunch was served late in the eve ning.
