Official statistics released Mon day by President Fred "Cyclone" Taylor show Scharfe out in front with 22 goals and 40 assists for a total of 62 points. Tip O'Neill, Vancouver Lions, and Frank Daley, Seattle Olympics, shared second place three points behind the leader, each with 59 points. O'Neill fired the highest number of goals, 33. Jack Riley, Lion for ward, shared the assist leadership with Scharfe, 40. Selections Of Schmidt Bearcats Get Prepared for Opening Tilt "Spec" Keene's bat boys are dusting off the Bearcats big sticks in preparation for the opening baseball game of the 1941 season two weeks away. The uni versity team will get down to formal practice routine this week to polish off the rough spots shown by informal workouts dur ing the last two weeks. Coach Spec Keene expects to spend much of his time with his pitching staff, generally regard ed as one of the strongest on the local campus in years. Early sea son headliners among the hurl ing candidates include Earl Tool son, rugged burley, Idaho fresh man; Jack Richards, southpaw first year man from Jefferson high school in Portland with a great semi-pro record; George Hanauska, Woodburn freshman with considerable experience; Hal McAbee, two year letterman, a right-handed curve ball special ist; and Dick Kern, a freshman from West Linn and still another southpaw. The opening game of the sea son will send the Bearcats against the Oregon state penitentiary Greys within the walls, March 29. Denver Hoop Meet Starts DENVER, March 17-(TP) -The victory circle widened to take in teams all the way from Louisiana to California Monday in the Na tional AAU tournament, one of the prize events in basketball's 50th anniversary celebration this year. Only three college teams Boise, Idaho, junior college, Phil lips university of Oklahoma and Greeley, Colo., State of the sev en entering the meet, survived first round battles. Texas' lone entrant, the Dallas Wilsons, otherwise this year's Southern Methodist outfit in the disguise made necessary by a conference ruling against compe tition in this meet, won its first round game. So did the Louisiana contender, Snreveport Morris Dicksons. The Arkansas representative, Ouachi ta college of Arkadelphia, fell be fore Greeley, Colo., State, Rocky Mountain conference champion, in a rousing 45-40 contest. The Oakland, Calif., Golden States team and Yakima, Wash., YMCA engaged in a defensive struggle in the first half but the Californians dominated the seo ond half scoring for its decision.
