Surplus foods which will be
available to families taking part
in the Food Stamp plan in the Sa
lem area during the March
through March 31 period were an
nounced Thursday by M. Louis
Belangie, area supervisor.
The nationally designated sur
plus foods available in all areas for
the March 1 through March 31 are
the same as those which were ob
tainable for the February
through February 28 period.
The complete list of blue stamp
foods obtainable in all stamp plan
areas for March includes: Fresh
grapefruit, oranges, apples, and
pears, onions (except green on
ions), Irish potatoes, butter, rai
sins, rice, pork lard, all pork (ex
cept that cooked or packed in met
al containers), corn meal, shell
eggs, dried prunes, hominy (corn)
grits, dry edible beans, wheat flour
and whole wheat (graham) flour.

Greatest single reason for dis
qualification for general military
service was bad teeth. Other prin
cipal reasons were deformities,
bad vision, hernia and heart de
fects. Only 21 of the 3604 sasso ex
amined .were underweight, and
only;15 overwelght yj ; ,
4:-Only34 were -found suffering
irom tuberculosis 17 with syphi
lis, 11 with stomach trouble and
57 cases f flat feet.
1 Suffering from mental diseases
or failing to reach mental stan
dards of the army were 41 men.

Realtor Exams
Dates Are Set
Real Estate Commissioner
Claude H. Murphy announced
Thursday that the real estate ex
aminations for brokers and sales
men will be held at Medford on
March 14, LaGrande on March
15, Salem on March 18 at 9:30
a. m., Portland on March 19 at
9:30 a. m.
Murphy stated the department
has approximately 100 applicants
for the examination.
To date 637 applicants have
passed the tests and after the
examinations in Marcfi approxi
mately 35 of the licensees will
have taken and passed the exam
ination since this requirement was
placed in the law in 1939.
Notification of tn examina
tions is being mailed to every ap
plicant.

Pastor Dies;

Word has been received by Prof.
E. S. Hammond of the death of
Rev. Reginald H. Stone, pastor of
the Lincoln Road church. Wash
ington, DC, who died January 29
after a lingering illness.

school and he had been graduated
from Kimball School of Theology,
then a part of Willamette univer
sity. While pastor of the West Sa
lem Methodist church, he built the
parsonage and he built the Metho
dist church at Wilson ville.
He had been located in northern
Montana, later was transferred to
Baltimore and then was sent to
Lincoln Road pastorate.
Survivors include his wife, three
sons and four daughters.

church. Mr. Witt was a brother-
in-law of Albert Julian, local man.

Chase of Portland.

ley cemetery, with Howe funeral
