T OEEGOXf STATESMAN, Salem, Oregon. Wednesday Morning. "rbruary 23. 1941 PAG TBI i i ;f v i. J ? ) I ?- Hop Mee tings Set by Board ; ; Oregon Growers to Be Informed of Dates ( and Places -Hop growers meetings, under direction of the hop control board, will be held in Oregon, Washing ton and California during the first part of March for -the purpose of reporting to growers operations of the hop board to date, and for giving growers full opportunity to make suggestions or iriticism re lating to operation of the program, and for consideration of amend ments to the marketing agreement for the 1941 se?son. Notices will be given in advance to each grow er stating the time and place of meeting. ' ; :;Vv, . The growers allocation commit tee, functioning under federal hop marketing agreement No. 92 and Order No. 49, regulating the han dling of hops grown In Oregon, California and Washington, today announced the final determination of 1940 hop production of all growers as determined and an nounced by Grover B. Hill, act ing secretary, United States de partment of agriculture, to be 42, 996,257 pounds. ' The secretary of agriculture de termined the "salable quantity of 1940 crop hops" to be 37,000,000 pounds on September 5, 1940. The "salable percentage" of the total quantity of 1940 hops pro duced by all growers is 86.114 per cent. That percentage is computed by dividing the "salable quantity of 1940 crop hops" (37,000,000 pounds) by the total quantity of 1940 crop hops produced by all growers (42,996,257 pounds). Each grower's "salable allot ment" is figured by applying that "salable percentage" to his 1940 production as determined by the secretary of agriculture. The growers allocation commit tee is today mailing to each grow er in Oregon, California and Washington notice of his salable allotment as computed by that committee. Buys Top Hog HAZEL. Sluggish Retreat; Steels Move tip. . : NEW YORK, Feb. 23.-()-The stock market today 'duplicated its performance . of Monday with last-gasp rally that enabled fa vorites to close at or near best levels of the session with gains of fractions to more than 2 points.' The list improved at the start, faltered and advances in many cases were transformed into de clines after mid-day. Dealings turned exceptionally sluggish on the retreat but picked up in the final quarter of an hour. The Associated Press average of 60 stocks ended up .2 of a point at 41.4, which was well above the 1941 low of 39.8 established Feb ruary 14. From the high of 45 early in January a slow recession had been under way until a week ago. Transfers totalled 357.230 shares compared with 347,730 the day before. .
