Tax Statements
Are Sent out
e
First Batch of Count j
"Duns" Posted by
Sheriff Deputy
First statements of 1941 prop
erty taxes due were posted Sat
urday to Marion county taxpay
ers by T. J. Bra bee, chief deputy
in charge of the tax collection de
partment of Sheriff A. C. Burk's
office.
The remainder of the state
ments will be mailed early next
week, though the complete oper
ation will probably take several
days.
Brabec Saturday repeated a re
quest which originated in his de
partment earlier to the effect that
taxpayers not appear to pay their
levies until they have received the
county's tax statement indicating
the amount due.
Payment of taxes without pres
entation of statement will require
extra bother both for taxpayer
and the tax collection office, Bra
bec said, since the office is not
equipped to verify payments at
once unless it can check numbers
appearing on the statements at
the time payments are made.
Mailing of statements will be
expedited by means of a postage
meter machine, he indicated,
which will stamp and seal state
ment envelopes in a fraction of
the time necessary to perform the
same operations by hand.
Handling of the envelopes by
the post office will also be has
tened, Brabec said.

The hearing, authorized at last
week's council session, will be
conducted by members of the
council health and sanitation com
mittee. Speakers will include men
from the state department of ag
riculture and the county health
office.
