Should persons oper ate machines, the ordinance will e taken off the table and amend d.to make the license fee so high as to be prohibitive, and passed, Action of the council was unanim ous. Petitions objecting to the pin all machines, had been signed fey 266 persons and presented to the council. Mayor Harold Austin : has ap pointed Floyd Maricle special police, officer to relieve City Mar shal Del Conyer one night each Week. Maricle replaces Bob Smith, who has moved to Portland. - The matter of improving Hard castle avenue was again brought p. Eola Community Club Holds Meet School Reports 4 H Clubs Busy With Projects; t Men Are Hosts Lincoln Set for Banquet Albany ALBANY Lineoln day will be observed in Albany this year and flans are under way for a ban quet at 6:30 on Wednesday night February 12. No banquet was held in 194 0 for the first time in many years. Dr. Donald Erb, president of the University of Oregon will be Vuest speaker, and will be intro duced by Willard L. Marks, presi dent of the state board of high er education and an ex-state sena tor. Mrs. Hazel Pague, Scio, member of the general committee, and pub licity chairman, is arranging the program. Justin A. Miller will be In charge of musical numbers; Deo McClain and Mrs. Walter Kropp are in charge of the ticket ales; members of Pro-America chapter are making arrangements for the banquet, and R. W. Tripp and Walter Kropp are assisting generally. Tickets have been placed with all committee men and women throughout the county and more than 150 persons are expected to be present this year. The Eola Health club is study ing parliamentary law. Several committees were appointed at the last meeting to plan a Valentine party. Albany-Bend Gets New Bus Service aldain x uperations of a stage line between Albany and Bend will be started around the middle of the month, when Ken neth Bloom will extend bis present stage run from Sweet Home to Bend. The new line was author ized by a public service commis sion order which approved theap- pucation or. Bloom made follow ing a hearing held at Sweet Home around two months ago. The schedule for which tenta tive plans have been made, calls for one round trip daily between Bend and Albany. The run will require approximately three hours and 4 5 minutes.
