Union Board Will Report
on 16 Facing Charges
of Backing Reds
SEATTLE. Dec. 12-(P)-Hand-bills
circulated today among Boe
ing aircraft workers gave promise
of a bitter controversy Saturday
over a special anion trial board's
report on its sifting of commun
istic activity charges.
The' Aeronautical Mechanics
anion (AFL) board fa scheduled
to report at a special closed meet
ing of the anion Saturday. Sixteen
persons. Including some of the
union's leaders, are accused of
permitting communistic activities
within the anion. The business
agent of the union is under sus
pension, pending outcome of the
hearing. ,
Also under suspension is C. A.
Stone, editor of the union's paper,
who is on trial on a charge of vio
lating the union constitution for
airing his charges of communistic
activities in a special edition of
the paper. Four men who circu
lated tbe edition are on trial with
him. r
Protest in Advance
The circular which appeared
today over the signature of one of
the accused members urged the
membership to "reject completely
and emphatically any red-baiting
verdicts of the trial committee
and reject them with a rebuke.
It charges that the trial board
departed from "the work of a
union committee and cooperated
with a number of outside forces
which are Interested in the dis
ruption of local 751" and that
members of the board "have de
layed their report repeatedly in
order to more effectively prepare
a 'frameup'."
Members of the board have de
clined to comment on the case,
pending its report to the union.
The anion embraces approximate
ly 8000 workers at the big Boeing
plants. '
