Stock Mfxket Has foeguiar Session Leaders Drop to Slightly Lower Level; New High Hit by Chesapeake NEW YORK, Dc. 10-P)-Buy-ers concentrated on a handful of specialties in today's stock mar ket and left many leaders strug gling at slightly lower levels. Quotations improved moderately in the final hour. The Associated Press average of 0 stocks was off .1 of a point at 44. Dealings were negligible ' most of the time and transfers of 610,095 shares compared with 632,335 yesterday. Light but persistent year-end tax selling received the principal blame for the spotty perform ance of the list. Business de velopments were more encourag ing than otherwise although even here there were thoughts ' of a nearby seasonal let-down. Fractions to a point or so were pinned on US Steel, Chrysler, US Rubber, J. I. Case, Douglas Air craft, Eastman Kodak, American Can, International Nickel, J. C. Penney, Du Pont, NY Central and International Paper common and preferred. NY Shipbuilding, American Shipbuilding and Newport News Shipbuilding turned up on fur ther prospects of big British or ders to replace ocean war cas ualties. Ahead also were Coca Cola, Alleghany Prto preferred, General Motors, Allied .Chemical, JohnsvManville and Kennecott. Chesapeake & Ohio was up at a new 1940 top. December Wheat Leads in Advance CHICAGO, .Dec. 10-fl3)-All commodity futures on the board of trade advanced today, led by the December wheat contract which closed at 904 -H. a gain of cents at the extreme over yester day's final quotation. ' " , Wheat started lower partly In sympathy with an easier trend In securities but further congestion soon developed In the Decemper contracts, which at times sold al most 4 cents over May.
