Sunday Morning, December 8, 1913 TAQZ Polk County1. 4H-ers Achievements Are Announced Winners Given Silver Cup; Dallas Chamber Is Host s " at Theatre Party DALLAS 4H club members and their parents from all parU of Polk count were present Fri day for the annual HVclub, achievement day program which was held at the Majestic theatre. . Preceding the. afternoon's pro gram a luncheon was given by the Dallas chamber of commerce hon oring four outstanding 4H club members in Polk county and their parents. This year's four out standing members who were pre sented silrer cups by the chamber of commerce at the luncheon In cluded Ruth Farmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Farmer of the Oak Grove -community for outstanding work in Bewing; Dorothy Keller, daughter of Mr. and 'Mrs. John Keller, Jr. of the Pioneer community, for outstand ing work in cookery; Lyle Know er, sm of Mr. and Mrs. William Knower of the Oak Grore com munity, who not only received the silrer enp for outstanding work in the calf club, but who also re ceived the additional honor of the county agent's trophy; Bob Lor- ence, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Lorence of Monmouth, outstand ing work in sheep club projects. -Polk County 8chool Superin tendent Josiah Wills presented the trophies in sewing and cookery while County Agent W. C. Leth presented the other awards. Ora mel Shreere, presidenfof the Dal las chamber of commerce, intro duced' County Agent W. C. Leth, who '"acted as .toastmaster at the luncheon, H. C. Seymonr, state club leader, was Introduced at the luncheon as was C. W. Rey nolds of. Corvallia. Following the luncheon all 4H club . members and .parents were guests for free show at the Ma jestic theater. Preceding the show W. C. Leth presided and introduced William Blackley, secretary of the Dallas chamber of commerce, who gave the address of welcome with a re sponse from Polk County School Superintendent Josiah Wills. Group singing was led by W. C. Reynolds followed by a talk by H. C. Seymour. Leo Spitzbart of the Oregon state' fair board presented three 4H scholarships. These were re ceived by Lyle nKower, Harvey Battel and Bob Lorence. Josiah Wills then presented the first year pins and the achieve ment certificates to sewing and county cooking club leaders while County Agent Leth presented the same to the calf and sheep club leaders. Awards were presented the club leaders for all 4H club members who had completed their year's wur.. in aaauion -iuu per cent achievement certificates were pre sented to each club that had com pleted Its past year's work 100 per cent. -. First year pin awards are made possible through the cooperation of the office of the state superin tendent of public instruction and the Dallas city bank. Certificate cards are secured through the of fice of H. C. Seymour, state 4H club leader. Methodist Circle Meets at Dallas DALLAS Members of Circle One of the First Methodist church met at the home of Mrs. Walter Williams Wednesday for a Christ mas party with Mr8 L. a. Boll man as assistant hostess. A business meeting was held with a short program following. This included a riolin solo by Mrs. R. J. Vashaw; talk, "Christmas in India" by Mrs. H. F. Pember ton and singing of a group of Christmas carols by a trio com posed of Mrs. Arthur H. Davis, Mrs. Ralph Murphy and Mrs. Ro bert LeFors. Gifts were exchanged and a tea hoar followed. Farmers Union Nows DAYTON About CO members attended the Dayton local Farm ers Union meeting Thursday night. Six guests attended from Gerrals and Jess Adams of the Mid-Willamette Cooperative and Mr. St. John, a member of, the board: pf directors of the state warehouse. Officers elected were Fred Withee, Jr., reelected president: John Coomler, vice-president; Arr nold Braat, reelected secretary; James Richardson, reelected or ganiser; Leonard Will, doorkeep er; B. A. Feltoa, George -Thompson and Andrew Nichols, board of directors. The letter states that if the people do not pay-the bill On or before January 1, 1941, the accounts will be put on the docket of city liens, following: which foreclosure pro ceedings .win be Instituted or cer . tificates of delinquency will be is sued, bearing 12 per cent interest. The latest report from the trea surer's office is that so far the sidewalk collections - hare beea good. Confined to Home Kenneth Abbott, Sunday school superintendent of the local Meth odist church, has been confined to his hpme the past week with a se vere attack of influenza. "Robert Pattlson will serve in Abbott's place in the Sunday school. Cast Rehearses For Turner Play TURNER Principal James O. Russel and Lois Mabry of the high school faculty have selected characters for the annual senior class play "Take It Easy." Rehearsals are under way by the following cast: Mrs. Highgate, Madeline Collier; Nancy, her daughter, Fernel Gilstrap; Flor ence, the maid. Vera Mae Hen dron; Mary, the cook, Dorothy Schifferer; Lon Terrence, Ken neth Barber; John Florence, Ro bert Ball; Tom Lawrence, Frank Ramey; Phillip, the butler, Jack Metcalfe; Arthur, a boy, Lloyd Grim; Beagle Jones, Russell Fish er. Fire is Surprise The local fire department was called to the J. C. Rivenes home Thursday morning where a hot chimney had caused a fire in an upper story bedroom. The present owner of the property did not know that there was a flue open ing In the bedroom until the fire started there. Previous owners had closed the opening with wall paper. Salem Choir Sings ' The choir from the church of Nazarene at Salem will give its Christmas cantata at the church of the Nazarene at Molalla on Thursday night at 7:45 o'clock. This Nazarene choir is the largest Nazarene choir in the north Pa cific district. Guild Meets Wesley guild held Its Christmas party Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. R. S. Willard. , .i, it Police Dog Returns To Place, on Truck LEBANON After the accident in which little Billy Rogers was killed. Buddy, the big black police dog who for eight years has been the constant companion of Oscar Golden, riding with him daily in the cab of his logging truck, which was involved in the collision, disappeared. All efforts to find him were unavailing. After a week he returned, thin and footsore.
