Beptanoaoat of the present
bridge across the-Morth Santiam

ture) will be aecessary without
delay IX travel is to be coatUaued
across the stream at thai point,
Marion Couaty Engineer N. C
Habbs aad K. G. Rlcketts, bridge
testing engineer of the atate high
way department, agreed yester
day.
They reached this conclusion
following an Inspection of the
structure, -already condemned,
which now atanda at Gates. Action
closing it was taken recently -by
the Una and Marioa couaty
courts Jointly.
Hubbs and Rlcketts found ex
tensive dry rot la the wooden
framework ot the structure and
also discovered that a list, al
ready noticed, had caused the
spaa to move over 13 inches since
work was last done on it several
mouths ago.
Except for false work bents
constructed at the time that work
was done, the bridge would have
fallen earlier, they concluded.
Their findings hare been sub
mitted to the Marioa county
court, aad win be ommaeicated
with the Linn -county body. Joint
action on a new bridge will short
ly result, it is believed.
Particular interest has been
taken in the matter by eoaaty au
thorities because of nausaal in
conveniences caused by the bridge
closure, especially to the Gatea
school district, where the school
bus is compelled to travel 30
miles out of its way daily la order
to carry pupils to aad fro be

How would the Preaa and the

This country the Great USA
