Dies in Dakota
Word has been received , here
of the death of Willard Vaughn
from a heart attack suffered at
bis home in DeSmit. S.D. last
week. Vaughn, with his family,
spent a year in Brooks some time
go. He leaves his wife, one
daughter and three eons.

Competes Willi 25 Teams
at Multnomah : Fair;
Livestock Judged
SILVERTON Silverton Fu
ture Farmers of America, under
the direction of the local instruc
tor, Leonard Hudson, went to the
Multnomah connty fair this week
and placed third. The local boys
competed with ZS other teams
from the Willamette valley ana
southern Washington..
Six classes of livestock were
judged: Jersey cows, Holstelns,
Guernseys. Jersey heifers, Duroc
Jersey gilts and a class of mar
ket lambs. Two hundred was a
perfect score for each class. In
the six classes a boy would have
a possible score of 1200 points,
or a three-man team a possible
score of 3800.
' Silverton's team was composed
of Lester Beugli of the Silverton
Hills: John LIchty. Fratum ;
Amos Funrue, Valley View. Les
ter Beugli was 10th high in tne
contest with a score of 830
with 78 boys entered. He was also
third hirh In judging Jersey neii
ers and second high in judging
Jersey cows. Silverton placed first
In Judging Jersey heifers.
Besides the instructor, other
boys going were Dale Herlgstad,
Lee Reeder, George Haberly, Dan
Van Brocklin, Carl Reed, an su
verton FFA boys.
The teams' standings were 1,

truck driving, dog acts,' trained

The boys will judge livestock
at the Yamhill county fair, the
Clackamas fair and the state fair,
and later at the Pacific Inter
national.
The Silverton Future Farmers
will have a meeting tonight to
make final plans for showing
livestock, crops, and shape ex
hibits at the Marlon county fair
on August 30 at Salem and at
the state fair September 2 to s

Catholic Delegate
Returns From Ohio
MT. ANGEL Joseph Schae-
cher returned to his work at the
Benedictine Press Monday from
a trip to Dayton, Ohio, where he
went as one of the two Oregon
delegates to the International
convention of the Catholic Order
of Foresters. John Deschner of
Portland was the other delegate.
Schaecher reports that over
300 delegates from the United
States and Canada attended the
four-day meet at the BUtmore
hotel in Dayton.,
With the convention over, ne
visited with relatives and friends
for a week in Columbus and
Humphrey, Nebr. Returning by
way of San Francisco, Schaecher
had a pleasant time at the ex
position there before coming
back to Mt. Angel.

Suffers Stroke
PERRYDALE Mrs. Wyatt,
mother of Mrs. H.J. Elliott, suf
fered a stroke last week and Is
paralysed from the waist down.
She Is being eared . for at Mrs.
Elliott's home here. She is 89
years old. Another elderly neigh
bor who Is ill and bedfast Is Mrs.
M. D. Miller, mother of Mrs. H.
A. Lee. Mrs. Miller has been con
fined to the bed 10 days. fcne is

Molalla's Fire
Truck Has Wreck
MOLALLA Molalla's volun
teer fire; truck ; collided with a
wood truck at the Five Oaks
station near Liberal north of Mo-
'lalla Tuesday morning.' The fire
truck was on 1U way to answer
a call for a grass fire burning
near, the i Five Oaks service sta
tion on the-T. S. Stlppjpropertv.
Owing to the dense smoke over
the highway, -the fire, truck and
wood truck drivers could not see
the other approaching from oppo
site directions, J 4 .. I .

Fire Chief Clyde ; W. Kendall re
ceived a sprained wrist; and Clay
Engle, also on the fire truck,
was knocked off by the impact
and was I bruised! and scratched.
The driver of the wood truck was
Guy Strieklin, - and John Hearn,
both of Woodburn. route two,
was riding with him. Hearn was
knocked unconscious and receiv
ed severe lacerations on his head.
Stricklin was shaken up but not
badly Injured. ; , , .
In spite of the collision, the
fire wvut out hefore the fire
truck Returned to Molalla.
