JEFFERSON Fire of undeter
mined origin destroyed .the house
on the Victor Oleman ' farm ' near
Jefferson Sunday afternoon at
about 4: SO o'clock. Most of the
farnitare was saved.
The fire spread across a stubble
field on the J. W. Vaughn farm.
burning a strait stack ,and also a
field on the Leo Weddle farm to
the A. B. Hlns farm before It was
extinguished. .Men from town an
swered the call for help and as
sisted in extinguishing the fire.
' Because a car bearing an Ok
lahoma license failed to stop at
the intersection of the Jefferson-
Marion road and the Pacific high
way, an accident occurred Satur
day afternoon. A car occupied by
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson and small
son and their parents of Eugene
was bit broadside, turning it on
Its side. Luckily none of the party
was Injured.
They were enroute home from
a trip to Crater lake,' Klamath
Falls and over the coast route
north. Another car traveling north
was driven into the Lee Grenz
yard to avoid being hit. The Eu
gene party remained at the Grenz
home until a car came to take
them home. Their car was loaded
onto a truck and taken to Eugene
Mrs. Margaret Pugh returned
to her home in Brownsville Mon
day after a visit at the home of
Miss Mrtle Myers and other
znenas.

all last week.
The FPA Improvement project
at the schoolhouse began last
week. Workmen are taking out
the trees around the gymnasium,
and a crew are working at re
roofing the gymnasium. .-

nia, where Mr. Dahl was conva

Swimming Classes
Are Set at Dallas
DALLAS As a part of the
summer recreational program at
the Dallas city park.., classes in
Red Cross swimming Instruction
will be held beginning on Tues
day, August 13, for a period of
two weeks. The classes will be
conducted by Miss Kurt of Sa
lem and will be held each day.
Tuesday through Saturday, for
the two-weeks period.
A tentative schedule follows:
Beginners. 11 to 11:80 and 11:30
to 12; women, 1:15 to 2; inter
mediate, 2 to 2:45; swimmers
2:45 to S:30; life saving, 1:30
to 6. c
Everyone but those taking part
in the lessons is asked to remain
out of the pool during the hours
swimming instruction is being
given.
Mrs. Bessie Bracken, who has
charge of the handicraft work in
the recreational program, holds
classes each day of. the week ex
cept Friday, from 8:30 to 3:30.
The attendance has averaged
about 45 in ber classes.

gon state penitentiary on a grand
larceny charge. - f - .
