Day Service Set
Independence, Monmouth
Patriotic Groups
Will Cooperate
DALLAS All patriotic organi
zations in Dallas, Independence
and Monmouth will cooperate la
the annual Memorial day services
to be conducted on the west aide
of the court house at 10 a. m.
Thursday, May 3. The program,
which la being arranged by ,'B.
C. Bell, will include numbers
and selections from the different
organizations.
Colors by the three posts and
their color guards will start the
program,1 followed ' by patriotic
music by the band. Hugh Hanaa,
commander of the Independence
American Legion post, will give
an Introductory reading followed
by prayer by the VFW chaplain,
William Ooote. . Obituaries of
veterans who hare died during
the year will be read by repre
sentatives from the three posts
after which there will be a rocal
number. ? The Ladies of the GAR
circle will -present a number fol
lowed by "In Flanders Field by
Glenna Macomtaer of Independ
ence. -,!';;'
Poppies will be placed on each,
cross representing a veteran who
has passed away since the war by
the Boy Scouts and the ladles of
the auxiliary will place wreaths
on the Gold Star Mothers' cross.
The Memorial day address will be
given by Rev. Walter Duff, pastor
of the Presbyterian church. - The
song, "God Bless America" will
precede "Taps' by' a bugler and
the program will close with the
tiring squad" from the national
guard, "company L,:, firing across
the crosses.

' AMITY The Amity Study club
met last Friday afternoon for the
last regular meeting of the club
year at the borne of Mrs. Lynn
Lanceflell with Mrs. Howard
Stephens assisting hostess. Dur
ing the business meeting it was
voted that the annual club picnic
and election of officers will be
held at Lafayette Locks Friday,
June 11. J
After the business meeting
Alice Clement, dean of music at
Llnfield college, the guest speak
er, told Interesting Incidents of
her recent trip to Europe.
A flower arrangement contest
was put on under the direction of
Mrs. Chase Thomas. First and
second prises for the most artistic
bouquet were now by Mrs. Lance
field and Mrs. Breeding. The
prise bouquets were given to Mrs.
Effle Sheldon and Miss Clement.
Plan Summer Picnic . .
SILVERTON HILLS Plans for
the annual summer picnic of the
Home Economics club were mads
at the last seasonal meeting of
the year. The picnic will bo held
July 11 at the William Wilcox
Mountain home.
Trophy Case Given
HUBBARD The senior class
of the Hubbard high school will
present a trophy ease as a gift
to the high school. The case Is
finished In dark oak.

Lodge
Meets at Dallas
DALLAS Members of the Sa
lem Eagles lodge conducted their
regular business : meeting in' the
armory Tuesday I night for the
benefit of the Dallas members
who belong to their organisation
in Salem. The worthy president
of Salem, Warren Jones, was in
charge of the business session.
A program of entertainment
was arranged by the Dallas Eagles
headed by Lee Ilitt and Merrltt
Hart and consisted of a guitar
duet and several j vocal numbers
by James Sampson and Walter
Redekoop after .which the girls
trio from the Junior high school
sang sereral numbers with Lloyd
Domaschofsky accompanying. The
trio is composed of Delores Krew
son, Helen McFetridge and Alice
Wall. Vivian Richardson did a
too dance followed By a tap dance
by Beverly Osuna after which Lor
ene Agee did a toe tap dance. The
drill team from Salem performed
to conclude the program.
There were about .85 present,
(0 being from Salem and about
25 from Dallas.

Hundreds of visitors, particul
arly school groups, have made
use of the state park picnic va
cuities In the past few days. Al
most three thousand ears parked
during the past week. Including
Sunday , when 1150 cars parked
during the day.
